Huawei Mate 9, MediaPad M3, & Huawei Fit Watch to Launch in Japan on Dec 16

Last month, Huawei had officially unveiled the all new Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche smartphones in Germany. Both these devices along with Mate 9 Pro featuring dual curved glass are launched in its home country, China. Though there is no official information, the company might launch these devices in the U.S on January 6th. Without Galaxy Note 7 in the market, the Mate 9 is one of the very few premium phablets available in the market. Before to the U.S launch, the company is getting ready to launch the Mate 9 in Japan on December 16th. Along with premium Mate 9, the company will also launch the MediaPad M3 tablet and the Huawei Fit fitness watch. While the Huawei Fit was unveiled alongside the Mate 9, the MediaPad M3 was launched at the IFA 2016 held in September.
Huawei Mate 9
Compared to last year’s Mate 8, the newly launched Mate 9 comes with a totally refreshed design. As seen on the P series, the company also introduced the dual camera setup in the Mate series. It sports a 5.9-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with a 2.5D glass on top. On the other hand, the Porsche design variant comes with a 5.5-inch Curved AMOLED display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. Under the hood, the device is powered by the latest Kirin 960 octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz and coupled with Mali G71 MP8 GPU. It includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The storage can be expandable upto another 256GB via MicroSD card slot. It is backed by a 4,000mAh battery with in-house Supercharge fast charging technology that can charge the device from 0% to 100% in just 90 minutes.
Coming to its cameras, it sports a dual camera setup with 20MP Monochrome sensor and a 12MP RGB sensor. The device includes OIS, dual tone LED flash, PDAF, and laser autofocus. For selfies, there is an 8MP autofocus front camera with f/1.9 aperture. The Mate 9 is the companies first smartphone to run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Soon the company is expected to release the Android 7.0 Nougat based EMUI 5.0 OTA update for Huawei P9 and P9 Plus smartphones. It measures 156.9 x 78.9 x 7.9 mm and weighs 190 grams. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of the device. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers all the connectivity options like 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, and USB Type-C port.
Huawei MediaPad M3
The Huawei MediaPad M3 is the successor to the last year’s Mediapad M2 which came in 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch variants. Now, the new tablet was launched with 8.4-inch IPS display with WQXGA (2650 x 1600) resolution. The tablet comes with an all metal body and will be available in Gold and Silver color options. It is powered by the last year’s 2.3GHz Kirin 950 octa-core processor and includes 4GB of RAM. The tablet comes in 32GB and 64GB storage variants along with a MicroSD card slot supporting upto 128GB. Unlike the Mate 9, the MediaPad M3 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based EMUI 4.1, and there is no information about the Nougat based EMUI 5.0 update.
On the camera front, there is an 8MP autofocus rear camera and another 8MP fixed focus camera on the front. The tablet also sports dual stereo speaker placed on the bottom of the edge of the tablet. With all these powerful specifications, the MediaPad M3 is backed by a 5100mAh non-removable battery that can support fast charging with the 5V/2A power adapter. The device also supports offer cellular connectivity with the included SIM card slot and support both FDD and TD LTE bands. It also features fingerprint sensor that comes embedded into the physical home button on the front. Connectivity options include Cat.4 LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, A-GPS, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port.
Huawei Fit
The Huawei Fit is the first ever fitness watch from Huawei. It can be used with both Android and iOS powered smartphones. As seen with the most of the smartwatches, it also comes with magnetically connected charging port. It sports a 1.04-inch LCD display with 208 x 208 pixels resolution and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The company claims the Huawei Fit to give 6 days of normal usage with one complete charge. With the IP68, the fitness watch is water resistant upto 5ATM. It packs heart rate sensor along with 6-axis motion sensor. The Huawei Fit connects with smartphones via Bluetooth 4.2. Along with the fitness related data, the watch also shows time and notifications. It can track the data in real time from various activities like running, walking, cycling, and swimming.
The Huawei Mate 9 with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced 68,000 Yen (approx $590 / Rs. 39,800). On the other hand, the Huawei MediaPad M3 with 32GB storage is priced at 31,980 Yen for W-Fi only variant and 37,800 Yen for LTE variant. There is also a 64GB storage LTE variant priced at 42,800 Yen which comes with free AKG earphones. Lastly, the Huawei Fit fitness watch costs 15,800 Yen.
