New Android 7.1.1 Nougat update rolling out with additional bug fixes to Pixel & Pixel XL

Google released the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for Nexus and Pixel devices last week. In India, the update brought an important feature i.e. the VoLTE support which was lacking in the Pixel and the Pixel XL smartphones. While the update fixed some of the known issues and added new features like VoLTE in India, it has been reported that few fixes couldn’t make it to that update after all. And hence in order to make sure your devices are up-to-date, the company is now rolling out a small update to crush some of those issues.

This update comes with a build number NMF26Q, and it is sort of a maintenance update. Due to this, users who will be getting the update won’t see any change in the Android version installed on the phones. Also according to the AOSP, this update is aimed at Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones that are registered on the UK-based O2 carrier, and it is meant to fix some MMS-related issues only i.e. users who are facing with sending or receiving MMS. However, since many users on the band 4 LTE networks on certain mobile networks have also reported some issues, we expect the update to go live for these devices registered on other network’s as well.

It is always good to see that developers are releasing constant updates and are making sure that all the bugs are fixed. With that said, if you are using one of the Pixel devices and in case you end up not getting the update then there is nothing to panic. It is meant to fix an issue faced by a specific set of users only. You can read the changelog below which states the purpose of the update –

remove spaces in front of APN types so that telephony can find APNs that can handle a particular type properly.

With that said, if you own either of these devices and are facing some issues, then you can update your smartphone to this new build to overcome all the issues.
