Xiaomi & Philippe Starck Working on 2nd-Gen Mi MIX Says CEO Lei Jun
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Xiaomi which is also referred as ‘Apple of China’ had introduced some interesting devices in the last couple of years. With the Xiaomi Mi 5 launch at the last year’s MWC, the company introduced the world’s first smartphone with 4-axis OIS. But the Xiaomi Mi MIX launched in collaboration with the French designer, Philippe Starck is one of the best innovative devices to launch in 2016. At CES 2017 held last month in Las Vegas, the company unveiled the White color variant of the Mi MIX which also sports ceramic built body. However, the availability of the device is limited to just China, and even there it is sold in very limited quantities.
While there are rumors about the launch of Mi MIX Nano a few months back, later the company clarified those as baseless rumors. Now, the company’s CEO Lei Jun has once again met Philippe Starck to work on the second-gen MI MIX smartphone. Though there are no specific details mentioned about the Mi MIX 2 smartphone, he said to explore how this exciting innovation can be made into reality product. The Mi MIX came with a 6.4-inch display with almost no bezels and also offers 91.3% screen-to-body ratio.
The company also introduced innovative features like Cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology which replaced the traditional earpiece and the ultrasonic proximity sensor which sits behind the display. With the Mi MIX 2, we can’t expect the company to stick with the bezel-less display; instead, there might some other innovation design come out. Unlike the Mi MIX which was introduced as a concept device, we expect Xiaomi to make Mi MIX 2 a consumer friendly device. The 6.4-inch display of the Mi MIX is prone to get damaged even if it’s dropped from smaller heights and there is no protection for the display which already lacks the bezels on the edges.
There is also a high-end variant of the Mi MIX which comes with 18K gold plated rings around the finger sensor and the rear camera module. Though it is not sold officially outside of China, there are many Chinese resellers who are selling all the variants of the Mi MIX for a slightly premium price. Check out the below links, in case of you are interested in getting our hands-on this innovative product. The device runs on the Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and packs flagship specifications.
As the Mi MIX 2 can be expected to launch only in the second half of this year, as of now, there is not much information available about the device. In the next few weeks, the company is expected to launch its latest flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi 6 in China. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details about the upcoming Xiaomi smartphones.
