BlackBerry expected to shut down it’s Hardware division by the end of September 2016
Amidst some of the popular smartphone brands like Apple, Samsung, etc. the once popular smartphone manufacturer Blackberry is looking to put an end to its hardware division soon. Yes, you heard that right, and this might happen sooner than you can imagine. According to the source, the company’s hardware makes up to about 65-percent of the company’s R&D expenditures, but it is reported that it only makes up to 1-percent of the global smartphone market.
BlackBerry’s CEO stated that he would be making a decision on the same by this month. So judging by that statement, it can be expected that we will be hearing some interesting news on this very soon as we are nearing the end of the month now. It is noted that the hardware division was once the primary reason for the company to be in the business. So it’s indeed surprising for many to hear about this news, although it is not confirmed yet.
According to the reports, the company ended up selling only 500,000 handsets and also their latest offering being the DTek50 is already under discount by a majority of the retailers. This smartphone was launched by the company a couple of months bac, and it touted to be the most secure smartphone. It was essentially a rebranded Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4. As far as the specs of the smartphone were concerned, it was not all that bad. It came with a 5.2-inchd display on the front, and it was powered by the Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617, which is an octa-core processor.
Well, looking at the current scenario, it makes a lot of sense. Closing the hardware division will allow the company to solely to focus on the software side of things, which seems to be doing them more good at the moment than the software division. However, all these are just speculation at this point in time and we have no confirmation from the company on this. We will get to know more on this very soon, so stay tuned for more detailed info on this.
