A couple of months back, Coolpad in collaboration with LeEco launched the affordable high-end smartphones under the Cool series. Till date, the company had launched Cool 1 and Cool 1C smartphones with a similar design. Today, the company had officially unveiled its latest smartphone called Cool S1 in China. Though the Cool 1S lacks the brush metal finish, the design looks similar to the LeEco Le Pro 3 which came launched in the U.S in October. Now, both the Cool S1 will be sold along with the Le Pro 3 in China and interestingly, both the devices come with same specifications.
The LeEco Le Pro 3 with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is currently retailing at 1999 Yuan (approx $290 / 19,500), and the newly launched Cool S1 with the same configuration is launched at 2699 Yuan (approx $390 / Rs. 26,400). However, the Cool S1 will be available in the new black color option along with regular Gold color. With a $100 higher price tag, Cool S1 comes equipped with the Harman’s Clari-Fi audio enhancing technology. To make use of this technology, Coolpad in collaboration with Harman also offering a custom-made AKG N18 Hi-Fi earphones within the package.
Since the device lacks the 3.5mm audio port, we aren’t sure whether these earphones come with a 3.5mm audio jack or the USB Type-C pin. Anyway, the company is offering a free 3.5mm audio port to USB Type-C adapter. Talking about the specifications, the Cool S1 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) In-cell display with a pixel density of 403 ppi. It comes powered by the 64-bit Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.35GHz and coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. The 6GB RAM variant comes with 64GB and 128GB storage options while the 4GB RAM variant is only limited to 64GB of internal storage.
Coming to the camera part, there is a 16MP IMX298 sensor on the rear with PDAF, 6P lens, and an aperture f/2.0. It can record 4K videos at 30fps and slo-mo HD videos at 120fps. On the front is an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle lens. Just below the rear camera, we can also find the mirror-finished fingerprint sensor. The Cool S1 measures 151.4 x 74.7 x 7.5 mm and weighs 168 grams. It offers dual SIM dual standby and supports all the Chinese carriers. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz & 5GHz, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and USB Type-C port.
The 4,070mAh non-removable battery powers this device and also supports Quick Charge 3.0. It runs on the LeEco’s EUI 5.8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The dual speaker setup on the Cool S1 offers stereo sound effect and also includes 10V dual audio amplifiers. The 4GB RAM variant is priced at 2499 Yuan while the 6GB RAM variant with 64GB storage and 128GB storage costs 2699 yuan and 3199 yuan respectively. Till date, Coolpad hasn’t launched the Cool 1 and Cool 1S smartphones outside of China and the same will be applied for the Cool S1 as well.
