Foxconn Manager steals 5700 iPhones worth $1.56 Million, could face 10-year jail term

As most of you know, Foxconn is a Taiwanese multinational company which also one among the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer. Now a former senior manager has been accused of stealing iPhones in China which is estimated to cost around $1.56, Million. It is said that 5700 iPhones were stolen in China and the accused has sold them who is identified as Tsai.
Foxconn has been in the limelight in the recent past, while in 2014 five of their employees were charged with breach of trust in Taiwan and also for the labor unrest, where its employees threatened to commit suicides in protest of their working conditions. The company also employs about one million workers at its factories which are spread across China.
The accused was identified as Taiwanese manager and was working in the testing department, who instructed eight of its employees at Foxconn’s factory to smuggle out about thousand of iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s. This factory is located in the southern mainland Chinese city of Shenzhen. The prosecutors also said that Tsai and his accomplices sold these testing phones which are supposed to be scrapped to stores in Shenzhen.
The accused nearly made TWD 50 million (approx 1.56 Million) from 2013 to 2014 and the same was reported by Foxconn to the Taiwanese authorities which were followed an internal audit where Tsai was questioned after his return on bail. He is now charged with breach of trust and will be facing a maximum of 10-year jail term.
Earlier it was reported that Apple has a plan to start manufacturing iPhones in India and it has approached Foxconn to look at the possibility of manufacturing iPhones in India. Asus also partnered with Foxconn to start manufacturing its Zenfone series devices under the Make in India project. Companies like Vivo, Karbonn, Xiaomi, Celkon and Gionee also took the initiatives to manufacture their handsets in India.
There is still a good amount of craze in the market for the iPhone 5 series since recently we have also seen two Indians were caught for robbing a truck in New Delhi which was carrying more than 1,000 iPhone 5S smartphones which worth more than 2.25 crore.
