After launching the new Moto Z series, this year the company also came up with the new Moto M series. The Moto M is the first smartphone to launch under this new series. This same device was launched last month in China and today, Lenovo has made it official in the Indian market. It will be exclusively sold through Flipkart and comes in Gold, Silver, and Gray color options. This is the first Moto M smartphone to come with an all metal body. Unlike the Moto G and Moto Z series, the fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of this device.
Talking about the specifications, the Moto M packs a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display and comes with a 2.5D glass laid on top. It is powered by the MediaTek’s Helio P15 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.2GHz and coupled with Mali T860 MP2 GPU. At the same price, Lenovo is offering Snapdragon 820 processor with the ZUK Z2 Plus smartphone. The Moto M also includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded additionally upto 256GB. In China, the device came with just 32GB of storage.
Unlike in China where it came with Vibe UI, the Indian variant run on last year’s Marshmallow OS with vanilla Android UI. Since the company is getting ready to release the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its earlier launched devices, we can expect the Nougat update for the Moto M in the next couple of months. In the camera department, there is a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and dual LED flash. On the front is an 8MP selfie camera with 85-degree wide angle lens. The device is kept powered on by a 3,050mAh non-removable battery that supports fast charging with the 5V/2A power adapter comes with the package.
It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G LTE for superior data speeds. Though the device lacks any IP certification for making it water resistance, the P2i nanocoating makes it at least splash proof. It has stereo speakers placed on the top and bottom of the device offering Dolby Atmos and 360 surround sound effect. Connectivity options include 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, and USB Type-C 3.1 port.
