Google Allo is failing to compete with WhatsApp & Messenger in India
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Google first announced the Google Allo app last year at the Google I/O 2016 event and showcased the service for the first time. One of the most important aspects of the service was that it had the Google Assistant built right into it which helps with quick reply based on the text on the screen. While it had a lot of interesting features up its sleeves, the company still decided to go hard on marketing the service. And as a matter of fact, the company, in fact, launched the service first in India than any other country.
However, according to the new reports, it looks like Allo is not doing well in India after all. The data from the app analytics firms suggests that the app has been downloaded 3.1 million times on the Google Play Store and 264,000 times on the Apple App Store in India since its launch in the month of September last year. Well, this might seem like good numbers for most people, but you might want to take a look at the numbers from Facebook’s Messenger and Whatsapp.
Facebook’s Messenger was downloaded over 33 million times on the Google Play Store, whereas, on iOS it was downloaded 1.7 million times. WhatsApp, on the other hand, was downloaded 58.6 million times on the Play Store and about 3.2 million times on iOS. The numbers for both the apps are counted since Allo’s launch last year. Well, if this doesn’t look like a serious issue to Google, then not sure what else might be. No doubt that the Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp are quite popular across the globe and especially in markets like India.
However, this doesn’t mean that Google is not trying hard. They have possibly done everything that they could, but hey, no one wants to try anything new as the older ones are doing a great job anyway. Google added the Hindi language to the built-in assistant to make it more appealing to the native users. In fact, they added custom chat stickers as well that were designed by Indian Artists within the app. The company also partnered with a popular YouTube Channel/ stand up comedy group called All India Bakchod to come up with a comedy sketch promoting the app. And not to forget about their partnership with Cafe Coffee Day as well.
Well, none of that seems to have much impact since the numbers speak for themselves. Facebook’s Messenger and WhatsApp are highly popular at least here in India and taking them down would be a huge task at hand. Allo is certainly not a bad messenger, it’s just that it is not as popular as other competitions in the country. Let us know what do you think about this. Do you use Allo or you still prefer using WhatsApp or something on those lines. Be sure to comment down below and stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more info on this.
