Samsung asks Faulty S7 Edge owner to sign a NDA before getting an exchange

Samsung is all set to make it huge in today’s news with the launch of the S8 smartphones. This is one of those times when the company does not want any kind of bad publicity that could potentially ruin their smartphone launch, right? Well, it looks like it is not really working out for them. According to the new report which we have, the company has made it to the news earlier today for all the bad reasons you can possibly imagine.
According to the source, Samsung recently refused to offer a replacement unit to man in Singapore for his faulty S7 Edge smartphone unless he did what they asked him to do. The company asked him not to speak about his faulty device out in the public and asked him to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before he could get a replacement unit. So putting things in simple words, the company is trying to play safe here and hide the fact that their device is indeed in fault so that the bad publicity doesn’t come back haunting them. Such a foul play Samsung!
It looks like the device in question was a new unit and was only six days old. When the man was trying to transfer all the files, the device began to overheat and it just stopped working. When he approached the service center in Singapore, he was handed over an agreement which read –
As you can see the agreement clearly mentions that he is not supposed to talk about this anywhere in public including his social media handles, etc. Upon refusing to sign the NDA, they denied for a replacement unit. He also wrote to Samsung via Email for which they responded stating that they will look into it and never reverted back. Finally a month later when he mentioned this on Samsung Mobile Singapore’s Facebook page, he got a response stating that the agreement was a part of “Standard” procedure.
And not just that, if you take a look at the agreement itself, it is mentioned that the exchange of the device is “a gesture of goodwill” on the company’s part whereas the device is still under warranty and the company is liable to do so as the warranty covers incidents like this. Nevertheless, this is indeed a shocking act from Samsung. It is yet to be seen if the company does anything about this and provides him a replacement unit.
But having said that, this is certainly not the kind of bad publicity they wanted and hence they were trying to play safe here to avoid any unnecessary media attention.
