Affordable Xiaomi Mi MIX with 2GB RAM & 16GB Storage to Cost Just Rs. 10,000

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

In October last year, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi Mi MIX concept phone alongside the Mi Note 2. Though the company is calling the Mi MIX as a concept device, it is actually on sale in China but only with very limited quantity. The Mi MIX got the worldwide attention with its almost bezel-less display and innovative features like ultrasonic proximity sensor and cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology. The complete device including the body, frame, and buttons are built out of ceramic. Initially, Xiaomi launched only the Black color variant, but at the CES 2016, it also unveiled the White variant.

A couple of months back, the company officials denied the launch of Mi MIX Mini. However, now we are once again listening about the affordable Mi MIX. The high-end Mi MIX with 6GB of RAM and 256GB storage is priced at 3999 Yuan. Now, the rumored mini variant will also use the Sharp’s display but features very thin bezels on sides and top. It comes in 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 64GB storage variants. While the 2GB RAM variant is said to cost just 999 Yuan (approx $145 / Rs. 10,000), the 3GB RAM variant will be priced at 1499 Yuan (approx $220 / Rs. 15,000).

Apart from the similar design, the specifications and build quality will be completely different to the original Mi MIX. Instead of the ceramic body, the affordable variant might come with plastic or metal body. Even the innovative features like ultrasonic proximity sensor will be missing on this device. Since the lack of space on the Mi MIX, Xiaomi went with smaller camera sensors instead of the better ones. Now, the smaller OmniVision sensors will be replaced with other sensors offering better output. Earlier this year, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi confirmed the development of Xiaomi Mi MIX 2.

Philippe Starck, who designed the Xiaomi Mi MIX, will also look after the Mi MIX 2. Xiaomi is already working on bringing the Philippe Starck ideas into real life. After the Mi MIX, we are seeing the rumors about the flagship smartphones from other manufacturers. The recently launched LG G6 with a large 5.7-inch display 1:2 aspect ratio. Even the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 and Apple iPhone 8 might also come with bezel-less displays. Since these details are based on rumors, take them with a pinch of salt until there is an official press release. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more updates!
