Xiaomi Mi 6 Smartphone Skips 3.5mm Audio Port to Be Waterproof
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Xiaomi is expected to launch Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus smartphones on April 11th in China. This is not the first time we will be seeing two flagship model from Xiaomi, in the second half of 2017, the company launched the Xiaomi Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus smartphones powered by Snapdragon 821 SoC. The upcoming flagship smartphones from Xiaomi have been the hottest topics in the rumors mills from the last few months. Tomorrow, Samsung will be officially launching the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones powered by Snapdragon 835 & in-house Exynos 8895 SoC.
Though Sony announced the Xperia XZ Premium with Snapdragon 835 SoC at the MWC 2017 event, the Galaxy S8 devices will be the first Snapdragon 835 powered smartphones to go on sale. Now, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 6 will also use the Snapdragon 835 SoC, but few rumors suggest the low-end variant to feature Snapdragon 821 SoC. The recent leaks suggest the device to be waterproof and will skip using the 3.5mm audio port in order to achieve that. We expect the Mi 6 to come with IP67 certification which makes it both water and dust resistant.
Even the leaked SIM card slot of the Mi 6 also comes with water seal tape. While Xiaomi is skipping the 3.5mm audio port, the LG G6 and Galaxy S8 devices will be water resistant and features 3.5mm audio port. The high-end variant of the Mi 6 might also sport dual camera setup on the rear. Xiaomi will continue to use the glass back body and the limited edition device sports ceramic body. Instead of the curved display, the Chinese company might opt for a flat panel display. It will be coming in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants with different storage options.
Alongside the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus, we might also see the Mi MIX Mini. Earlier this year, the company officials claimed these as false rumors, but once again we are seeing the leaks about the affordable variant of Mi MIX. The 2GB RAM variant of this device is said to cost just 999 Yuan (approx $145 / Rs. 10,000). At such a low price, the Mini variant will miss the ceramic body and might come with thin bezels, but the design will remain same as the original Mi MIX. Since all these details are based on rumors, take them with a pinch of salt. In next few days, we might get the official launch date of the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus.
