Apple & Samsung took top two spots in the wearable market for Q1 of 2017

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

Apple has been dominating the wearable market since the launch of the Apple Watch and it looks like things have not really changed all that much. According to the new reports which we have, Apple and Samsung have managed to take the top two spots in the wearable market for Q1 of 2017. The Cupertino tech giant recorded 53-percent sales in this sector whereas, Samsung garnered 12.8-percent sales during the three months from January through March. Fitbit, on the other hand, took the third spot with 12.2-percent wearable sales.

The launch of the new Apple Watch as well as constant support for the watch like frequent launches of new watch bands, etc. seemed to have done the job for Apple. As far as Samsung is concerned, the launch of the new Gear S3 helped the company a lot. The watch was well built and it had some really great features up its sleeves. It has great battery life, unique build quality, and an intuitive UI, all of which makes up for a great smartphone overall. You can read our full written review of the Gear S3 Frontier here.

However, when you talk about the actual shipping data instead of considering the total sales, things are a little bit different. Even in this case, Apple managed to remain on top delivering 16-percent of the products shipped during the first quarter. And next to our surprise, Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer managed to take the second spot. The company recorded 15.5-percent shipments which possibly mostly comprises of the Mi Band 2 which is an affordable fitness band offering from the country. Fitbit again managed to stay on the third position here as well recording total shipments of 12.3-percent.

The above data clearly shows how Apple is dominating the wearable market, although there is not a lot happening in this sector. The number of smartwatches that launched this year dropped and in fact, the overall smartwatch sales from other manufacturers like Moto, LG, etc. also dropped significantly. However, things seemed to have worked out pretty well for Samsung and Apple as they are on the top. Let us know your thoughts on this.
