Qualcomm Introduces new Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanners at MWC Shanghai
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Qualcomm, the leading chipset maker in the industry has just announced the new ultrasonic fingerprints for smartphones and tablets at MWC Shanghai. This is the next generation of fingerprint scanner technology which we have and it expected that it will replace the capacitive scanner which we right now, at least on the flagships smartphones. These new sensors are highly advanced and ambitious and they are certainly a major departure from the existing technology in use.
These ultrasonic scanners allow fingerprints to be scanned on Glass, Display, and Metal. In fact, they will also work underwater which makes it much more convenient for smartphones with IP certifications. However, these scanners’ scanning capability is not just limited to scanner fingerprints, they can also pick up heartbeats as well as detect blood flow at the same time. On top of all this, they also support directional gestures, using which a user can control the notification shade or open apps using the rear-facing scanner.
Qualcomm Announces The New 14nm Snapdragon 450 Mobile Platform
In terms of the availability, expect these sensors to be found on a large number of devices. The Qualcomm fingerprint scanner will work with both Qualcomm chipsets as well as other non-Qualcomm chipsets as a standalone sensor. And not just that, it has been reported that these Fingerprint Sensors for Glass and Metal will work with the recently unveiled Snapdragon 660 and 630 chipsets. On the other hand, the Fingerprint Sensors for Display, Glass and Metal will be compatible with future Snapdragon Mobile Platforms as well as non-Qualcomm chipsets as well.
According to Qualcomm, the glass and metal-based sensors will be made available to the manufacturers this month. This means that we can expect smartphones to ship with this starting next year. The Sensors for Display will be ready for manufacturers to evaluate during Q4 of this year. This new technology is expected to change a lot of things when it comes to the way users unlock their smartphones. We can’t wait to try out the smartphones that come with the scanners under the display. We would like to know your thoughts on this.
