OnePlus CEO Pete Lau Responds to the OnePlus 5 Benchmark Cheating Criticism

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

OnePlus has recently launched the new OnePlus 5 smartphone which is their flagship for this year. However, the launch is not the news that is trending, instead, the news of company cheating on the benchmark app is on top of the other headlines. If you have been living under a rock and don’t know what exactly is going on here, the company again cheated on the benchmark apps with the OnePlus 5 smartphone, just like they did the OnePlus 3T. Well, after a lot of negative criticism, the company’s CEO has finally decided to speak up on this matter.

Talking on this matter, the CEO said that, “We only try to tap into the full potential of the CPU. We don’t know how to overclock.” In fact, the company;s official statement also states something similar. Apparently, it displays the best potential of the smartphone. While it makes a fair bit of sense, however, it was absolutely unnecessary for them to do since the device by itself performs far better than any other smartphone out there in the market, thanks to more RAM and clean UI. And if you are a customer who makes a purchase decision based on the benchmarks, then we suggest you stop doing that since it is overall day-to-day UI that matters.

The CEO also talked about a few other topics. When asked about the design resemblance with the iPhone 7 Plus, he said that they have been seeing similar comments since the OnePlus One and time has proved everything. We further went on to say that “OnePlus One is classic now.” Well, it certainly looks like he was well prepared with all the answers. However, none of this goes to say that the OnePlus 5 is a bad smartphone by any means. It is one of the most powerful that the company has built till date. In fact, it is one of the fastest selling OnePlus smartphone till date.

If you as an end user are planning on buying this smartphone, then we suggest you go ahead and get it if you are fine with the fact that it looks strikingly similar to the iPhone 7 Plus or the Oppo R11. Also, if in case you don’t want 128GB of internal storage, then it is safe to say that the 6GB RAM variant should be just fine for most users. Let us know your thoughts on this.
