Flipkart’s Billion Branded Smartphones Might Launch Similar to Amazon Fire Phones

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

In the last few year’s, Flipkart has introduced several private label brands called Citron, Digiflip, and Flippd exclusive through its online stores. With the low sales, the company has killed all these three brands, but their products are still available to purchase on their website. In December 2016, the company also launched a new brand called SmartBuy to sell the products under electronics and home categories. However, the Indian e-commerce giant is still working out on the private labels to bring in the additional revenue.

Last month, the company add a new brand called Billion under its private labels. Flipkart is diversifying this new Billion brand by calling it ‘Made for India’ brand. Under this new brand, the company will be launching high quality ‘Made in India’ products. Just like the earlier private labels, the Billion products will be sold exclusively through Flipkart. Now, the latest news is that Flipkart will soon unveil smartphones under their own brand. While there is no confirmation, these new smartphones might come from the newly announced Billion brand.

We expect these private labeled smartphones to cost lower than the competition. Since Flipkart own’s few other Indian online stores like Myntra, Jabong, and eBay India; the smartphone will have all these apps pre-installed. With eKart, the logistics arm of Flipkart, the smartphones might get express service in terms of delivery and after sales support. Also, these smartphones will be competing with the other Flipkart exclusive smartphones from the brands like YU, Samsung, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Motorola, and others.

Key reasons for the launch of private labeled smartphones:

  • Idea would be self-branded products
  • Discounted Offering
  • Promoting Flipkart brands through pre-installed apps
  • Quicker delivery
  • Competing with their own Super Phones list

On the other hand, Amazon has tasted success with its several private labels like Amazon Basics, Amazon Echo, & Happy Belly. While the global presence is one key factor, the Amazon also offers high quality products that are on par with the incumbent brands and costs cheaper than the competition. Even the company sells Fire branded tablets, smartphones, and TV STB’s at relatively much cheaper price than the competition. While the Fire Phone is a failed attempt, the Fire Tablets are popular just because of the combined deals and dirt cheap pricing.
