MediaTek Unveils Helio P23 & Helio P30 Mobile Chipsets with Mali-G71 GPU
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
The Taiwanese chipset maker, MediaTek has launched two new mobile processors under the Helio P-series named Helio P23 and Helio P30. Both these Helio processors compete with the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 and 660 processors. The smartphones powered by these new processors will be available starting from Q4 2017. Mostly, we will see the affordable mid-range smartphones to use these chipsets. According to MediaTek, the processors are designed to deliver high performance and at the same time will also be power efficient. The Helio P20 and Helio P30 processors are built using the 16nmn FinFET process.
Speaking on the occasion, TL Lee, GM of MediaTek’s Wireless Communication business unit, said,
“Reaching the mid market means bringing people affordable devices that power and perform with the latest features, like dual-cameras and 4G LTE connectivity. In the rapidly growing arena of new premium mid-range devices, mobile technology innovators know they need to stand out in a crowded field – P23 and P30 enable them to do that.”
The Helio P23 and Helio P30 chipsets will support dual SIM with dual 4G VoLTE connectivity. With the VoLTE and ViLTE support, the users can make HD voice and video calls. Both these chipsets also bring dual cameras support. While the Helio P23 supports 13MP + 13MP dual-camera setup, the Helio P30 supports 16MP + 16MP setup. The manufacturers can opt for RGB & Monochrome sensors or Wide-angle & Telephone sensor. There is a dedicated Vision Processing Unit (VPU) on the Helio P30 clocked at 500MHz that takes the processing load off the CPU and GPU, thus decreases the power consumption by 1/10th percent.
They come with in-house Imagiq 2.0 technology that looks after the post-processing of the captured images and videos. It even includes a new hardware component called Camera Control Unit that brings twice the auto exposure convergence speed than the competitors. With the latest 4G LTE modem, the chipset will be offering up to 300Mbps download speeds and up to 150Mbps upload speeds. Both the processors include eight Arm Cortex-A53 cores clocked up to 2.3GHz. The Mali G71 MP2 GPU on the Helio P25 is clocked at 770MHz while the same GPU on the Helio P30 is clocked at 950MHz.
With the use of 16nm process and MiraVision EnergySmart screen, the Helio P30 is said to offer 8% more power saving compared to the Helio P25 SoC. Coming to the Helio P23, it will be 15% more power efficient than the Helio P20 chipset. On the connectivity front, the processors also include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM Radio, GPS, and GLONASS. There is also an advanced feature called TAS 2.0 that intelligently switches between antennas to optimize signal quality. While the Helio P23 will be available globally, the Helio P23 is said to launch first in China.
