Earlier: Aug 8th, 2017 – The Russia based smartphone maker, Yothaphone has launched two iterations of the YotaPhone with a secondary e-ink display. Without much success even after the launch of YotaPhone 2, it has partnered with a Chinese company to manufacture the devices in China. With this partnership, the company is trying to bring the pricing down. In June this year, YotaPhone has announced its latest smartphone called Yota 3 (a.k.a YotaPhone 3) at the China-Russia Expo. Today, we got to know about the key specifications and the first look of the device.
With the Yota 3, the company has finally came out with the best design for a dual screen smartphone. It sports a metal frame with curved antenna bands along the top and bottom edges. The 5.5-inch primary display comes with an AMOLED panel offering Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. On the rear of the Yota 3 is the 5.2-inch E-ink that offers HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. Apart from using the e-ink display as an e-book reader, the user can also configure to show the notifications. Compared to the AMOLED display, the e-ink display in monochrome consumes very less power.
The device will be running on the in-house Yota OS based on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. The custom OS will bring more productivity out of the e-ink display. Under the hood is the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz and comes coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The Yota 3 packs 4GB of RAM and will be available in 64GB and 128 GB storage options. There is also a MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage. In the camera department, there is a 12MP rear camera with LED flash and a 13MP front camera for selfies and video calls.
With all these specifications, the Yota 3 is backed by a 3,200mAh non-removable battery. The physical home button beneath the primary display comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor, while the e-ink display has three capacitive navigation buttons. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and USB Type-C port. Back in June, the Yota 3 is said to cost $350 for the 64GB storage variant and $450 for the 128GB storage variant. The device will go on sale starting next month in China and Russia.
