Back in March 2017, Xiaomi launched the affordable Redmi 4A smartphone in India for Rs. 5,999. Unlike the recently launched Redmi smartphones, the Redmi 4A comes with a polycarbonate body and misses the fingerprint sensor. Today, the company announced a new variant of the Redmi 4A for Rs. 6,999. It will go on sale from this Thursday through all the major online stores along with Mi Home retail stores. While the earlier launched variant packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, the upgraded variant offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
Apart from 1 gig of extra RAM and doubled onboard storage, rest of the specifications remain same on both the variants. The device sports a 5-inch IPS display that offer HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. Under the hood is the 1.4GHz Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU. Along with 16GB/32GB of internal storage, there is also a MicroSD card slot for expanding the storage up to 128GB. Unlike the newly launched Redmi Note 5A, the Redmi 4A comes with hybrid SIM slot where the user has to choose between the secondary SIM and the MicroSD.
It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 8 out of the box. In the camera department, there is a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP front camera with the same f/2.2 aperture. The device is backed by a 3,120mAh battery that is rated to give up to 7 days on standby. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE for using with the Jio 4G SIM. The device measures 139.9 x 70.4 x 8.5 mm and weighs 131.5 grams. As said earlier, there is no fingerprint sensor on this device. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and MicroUSB 2.0 port.
Next week, the company has confirmed to launch a new flagship smartphone with dual camera setup. While the there is no confirmation, we expect to see the first Android One smartphone from Xiaomi. Based on the leaks, the company might launch Mi 5X as Mi A1 in India with stock Android instead of MIUI. We have to wait till the official launch event that is scheduled for September 5th to know the details of the new flagship device.
