Samsung Gear Sport Launched with Samsung Pay & 5ATM Water Resistance

As announced at the Unpacked event held in New York earlier this month, Samsung unveiled its new wearables at the IFA 2017. The Samsung Gear is the company’s new smartwatch running on the proprietary Tizen OS. The new Gear Sport is smaller in size compared to the Gear S3 and comes with a smaller battery and smaller display. There is no LTE support and the user has to depend on the Wi-Fi for the music streaming. It newly comes in Black and Blue color options.

The 42mm Aluminum dial sports a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display with 360 x 360 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 302ppi. It also comes with Always On display and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by 1.0GHz dual-core processor and packs 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The smartwatch is also water resistant up to 5ATM which means it is safe to go up to 50 meters under water.

With the NFC support, the Gear Sport can be used for mobile payments via Samsung Pay. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, and NFC. There are also a bunch of sensors including Accelerometer, Gyro, Barometer, HRM, and Ambient light sensor. The new Gear Sport is also Military Grade certified with MIL-STD-810G rating. It is backed by a smaller 300mAh compared to the 380mAh battery on the Gear S3 and supports wireless charging.

It is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy smartphones running on Android 4.3 or later. The Gear Sport can be connected with other Android devices running on Android 4.4 or later. Coming to the iOS compatibility, the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6S, 6s Plus, SE, 5S, 5 running iOS 9 or later are supported. The Samsung Gear Sport is priced at EUR 349.99 (approx $416 / Rs. 26,500) in Europe and goes on sale from October.
