Samsung to kill My Knox, suggest users to move to Secure Folder instead
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Back in 2014, Samsung introduced a new service called My Knox. My Knox was one of the easiest ways of keeping two separate profile in a single phone. It allowed users to maintain a personal profile as well as a work profile where work specific data can be securely stored and can be kept away from the personal day-to-day stuff. Back in the days, it was one of the best security solutions that one could have asked for to create separate space within a single phone. However, now the company is officially bidding a goodbye to My Knox.
Yes, Samsung has sent an email to the users announcing that it will no longer support the service. It also stated that the feature won’t be available on the new Samsung devices this year. Hence moving forward, we certainly won’t be seeing My Knox on future Samsung devices that will be coming out. However, if you have been using the service then you can still continue to do so until the service’s end-of-service date. But the company didn’t specify the end-of-service date yet and we hope that the same will be announced soon.
Samsung Secure Folder is now officially available for Galaxy S7/S7 edge smartphones
On the other hand, if you are wondering what to use as an alternative for the same, the company suggests users switch to Secure Folders in the same email. You can download Secure Folder from the Galaxy App Store. The Secure Folder apps will be compatible with all the Samsung smartphones running on Android 7.0 Nougat or above. The Secure Folder also works in the same way how My Knox used to work. It is based on the same Samsung Knox security platform. What it does is, it essentially creates a private, encrypted space on your smartphone.
Users can use this secure space to store apps and data that will be kept away from the personal space safely. And moving your data, apps, etc. from My Knox to Secure Folder is also quite effortless. All you have to do is, fire up the My Knox app and go to settings. Look for the backup option and take a backup of all your data. Once done, simply head over to the Secure Folder and select back and restore options. Now just restore to import all the data. Can’t get easier than this right?
Having said that, we would like to know your thoughts on this. Were you a My Knox user and if yes, then would you be using Secure Folder or would you be switching over to some other service.
