Xiaomi Overtakes Apple, Fitbit to become #1 in the Wearable Segment

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

In the last one year, we have seen many wearable brands shutting down. While there are few good products from those brands, lack of the market penetration resulted in fewer sales. However, Xiaomi with its affordable fitness trackers has risen to the top position in the wearable segment. Now, the latest report confirms Xiaomi as the market leader with a market share of 17.1 percent. According to the report, the company has sold more than 3.7 million units in the second quarter of 2017. The Mi Band 2 with OLED display and heart rate sensor is the most popular fitness tracker in the budget segment.

Earlier to this, the company has sold Mi Band and Mi Band 1S without OLED displays. However, we don’t know whether the numbers include the sales of the Xiaomi’s subsidiary Amazfit. Next to Xiaomi is the Fitbit with 15.7 percent market share. It has lost its leadership position after a drastic drop in the sales in the last one year. It is now limited to the second position after losing almost 13 percent market share. The company has shipped just 3.4 million units which are much lower than 5.7 million units shipped during Q2 2016.

Earlier this year, Fitbit brought the smartwatch brand Pebble for $23 million. Later this year, Fitbit will also launch its first ever smartwatch. As per the rumors, it will come with the same design as the Fitbit Blaze. Talking about the Apple, the premium Apple Watches has increased its market share from 9 percent to 13 percent in just one year. In Q2 2016, the company has shipped 1.8 million units and now in Q2 2017, the sales have risen to 2.8 million units. While the Chinese are looking for the budget fitness tracker, those in the U.S are more interested in the premium smartwatch options.

Looking at the report, more users are now opting for the budget fitness trackers instead of the premium smart watches. Though Xiaomi is in the top position, Apple has better growth in the last one year. Lets us know, which wearable devices have you owned in the past and would be interested in purchasing the smartwatch.
