2017 Google Pixel Smartphones to be Codenamed as ‘Muskie’ & ‘Walleye’
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Last year, Google introduced the new Pixel series by launching the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Unlike the Nexus smartphones, the Pixel smartphones lack the name of its manufacturer. The leaks of the first gen Pixel devices started with their codenames Marlin and Sailfish. Following the same lines, now the codenames of the second-gen Google Pixel smartphones are leaked to be the Muskie & Walleye. Just like the Marlin & Sailfish, the codenames of the upcoming Pixel devices are also of the sea creatures. The device with the codename Walleye is spotted on the AOSP where it is also mentioned to be booting.
Apart from the codenames, there is no other information know about these devices. Since the devices will be launched only in the second half of 2017, we can expect more leaks to come out in the following months. While Google is said to made agreement with HTC for manufacturing Pixel devices for the first three years, the upcoming Pixel smartphones will be also manufactured by HTC. With the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, Google introduced the Google Assistant as an exclusive feature, but it is now available for all the smartphones running on Marshmallow and Nougat.
Though there are exact sources, we surely expect these devices to come powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC or an upgraded variant of it. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium launched at the MWC 2017 is the world’s first smartphone to come with the all new Snapdragon 835 SoC, but the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will be first Snapdragon 835 powered devices to be made available for sales. The Snapdragon 835 SoC is built on Samsung’s most advanced 10nm FinFET process that brings the size down which instead helps the manufacturers to use that for some other component.
It is the most powerful smartphone processor from Qualcomm till date and is also power efficient when compared to its predecessor’s Snapdragon 820 & 821 processors. The 2017 Google I/O is scheduled from May 17th to 19th, where will be hearing about the latest Android version which also powers the 2017 Pixel smartphones. We are expecting the upcoming Android version to be called as Google O (O for Oreo?). Share your thoughts about the Android O’s name in the comments below.
