Samsung to Launch Upgraded Gear 360 Pro Camera Alongside Galaxy S8

Last year’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones are unveiled at the Mobile World Congress. After the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, the company can’t afford to go wrong and is now taking all the required precautions before launching its upcoming Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones. Even at this year’s Mobile World Congress, the company launched the Galaxy Tab S3 tablet instead of the Galaxy S8 smartphones. Both the new smartphones will be officially unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked 2017 event scheduled for March 29th in London.

Along with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones, we also expect to see the new 360-degree camera called as Gear 360 Pro. It will be an upgraded variant to the original Gear 360 which was launched along with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. In November last year, a new device with the model number SM-R210 is spotted on Zauba, and it then said to be the Gear 360 Pro. The Gear 360 can be used only with flagship Galaxy devices and lacks the 360-degree live streaming support; with the upcoming Gear 360 Pro, we expect these features to be included.

Even at the 2017 MWC, Samsung talked about the new Gear 360 Pro without actually revealing the product or the exact details. The built-in video player on the Galaxy smartphones will also support 360-degree videos. With the technological advancements happened in the last year, we might see a bigger capacity battery that can record even longer 360-degree videos. Along with the new features, the upcoming Gear 360 Pro might come with an improved image and video quality than the 30MP images and almost 4K videos from the Gear 360.

As there is no display, the Gear 360 needs to be connected to premium Galaxy smartphones to get a viewfinder or better way to change the settings. If not a Galaxy smartphone, the user at least needs to have a PC to stitch the two 180-degree videos and or even for the basic editing. While display can’t be expected, the upcoming Gear 360 Pro should have the live stream option for the 360-degree video. Just like its predecessor, the Gear 360 Pro at least offers connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.1. We also hope to see a separate charging cradle to charge the extra batteries.
