Snapchat Announces the new Snap Map Feature to help users Explore the World

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

Snapchat has been quite aggressive when it comes to adding new features to its mobile app and it is quite evident from the fact that we have seen so many updates with new features over the past couple of months. And now, yet again, the company has introduced a new feature called Snap Map. Just like the name suggests, it is a new feature which is built right into the app that lets users explore what other users are upto, across the globe.

Talking about this new feature, users can access it by pinching to zoom out from the main camera screen. It will then take you a world map which is interactive. It will show you all the stories which users are adding to their Our Story option. it will be tagged to your location which will then be open for other users to see. Think of it like a geo-location tagging on your gallery app, except that users across the globe will be tagging their own stories to their location for others to be able to see.

Instagram adds Snapchat like location based filters to Stories

You will be positioned on the map based on your location. The app will ask if you want to share your location with others, the first time you access the feature. If other users decide to share their location, then you can see exactly where they are on the map. You can also choose to be in Ghost mode and not your location. So essentially you are in control of your location. You can either choose to share it or stay in Ghost mode. Check out the video below to know how it works.

This new feature called Snap Map is based on the company’s latest acquisition of the social mapping startup Zenly. According to TechCrunch, it looks like Snap Inc. bought Zenly for between $250 million and $350 million. Also, it has been reported that most of this amount was paid by cash and some stock in a deal that was apparently closed late in the month of May. With that said, if you want to check out the feature, then you can do so pinching to zoom out from your main camera screen in the app. The feature is already out and you might just want to quickly update your app to get this new feature. Let us know what do you think.
