Samsung Galaxy X to feature 5.7-inch 2K Foldable Display, may Launch in 2017
From the last couple of years, we were hearing about the foldable display smartphone from Samsung. Though there is no evidence about the launch of the device, the company has showcased at the SID Display Week 2016 conference held in San Francisco. In 2014, Nokia also demoed OLED foldable displays with two fold and three fold options. Last years, there are also rumors about the launch of foldable smartphone from Samsung at CES 2016.
Now Samsung is about to bring the foldable display to reality with the rumored Galaxy X smartphone. The company showcased the 5.7-inch AMOELD display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution and just 0.3mm thickness. It comes with a curvature of 10 mm radius and weighs just 5 grams. At the CES 2016 in January this year, another Korean company, LG came up with a huge 18-inch OLED display which can be rolled like a newspaper.
Along with the foldable display, Samsung is also keen on making 13.3-inch and 14-inch AMOLED display for laptops which comes with in-built touch sensors. The company claims that these displays will reduce the thickness and weight of the laptops. Talking about the Galaxy X, it will be launched in 2017 alongside the Galaxy S and Note series devices. While the Galaxy X is rumored to come with 4k resolution display, the showcased display settles for just 2K resolution.
Though we aren’t sure about seeing a smartphone with the foldable display, we also hope the rumors come true. In the meantime, LG is gearing up for the launch of LG G Flex 3 which will be the successor for G Flex 2 launched in early 2015. The device is expected to launch at the IFA 2016 scheduled for September. The device is rumored t be powered by Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor and includes 4GB of RAM. It comes in 32GB and 64GB storage variants.
While the G Flex 2 came with a self-healing back panel, there are no details about such feature on G Flex 3. It sports a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. It might run on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. Since the IFA 2016 is almost three months away, we can expect more details regarding the G Flex 3 to be leaked soon. Stay tuned for more updates!
