Xiaomi Mi 6 Smartphone with Snapdragon 835 SoC to Launch on April 16th

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

Xiaomi will be launching their new flagship Mi 6 smartphone in the next few weeks. Unlike the Mi 5 which was unveiled at the MWC 2016, the Mi 6 launch event will happen in China. While the exact reason for not attending this year’s MWC event is not mentioned, we expect the Hugo Barra’s departure to be one of the key reason. He is the only one who talked about the Xiaomi products on a global stage. While the company is yet to announce the official launch date of the Mi 6, the leaks from China suggest the company to unveil the latest flagship smartphone on April 16th in Beijing, China.

Recently, there are rumors that the company is opting for the flat panel display instead of the curved displays as seen on the Mi Note 2. It is said to sport a 5.2-inch display which is slightly bigger than the 5.15-inch display of the Mi 5. Now, we got more details about the specifications of the upcoming Xiaomi flagship smartphone. Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor built on 10nm Architecture. At the MWC 2017, Sony unveiled the new Xperia XZ Premium with the Snapdragon 835 SoC and 4K LCD display.

Coming to the Mi 6, it is said to come in two variants, the standard variant features a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution panel whereas the display on the premium variant comes with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. With the Quad HD panel, at least the premium variant comes with Google Daydream support for the virtual reality (VR) experience if the devices run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat based MIUI. The Mi 5S, Mi 5S Plus, Mi MIX, and Mi Note 2 launched in the second half of 2016 came with the Snapdragon 821 SoC, the upgraded version of the Snapdragon 820 SoC.

Even the recently launched LG G6 also opted for the Snapdragon 821 SoC instead of waiting for the Snapdragon 835 SoC. The standard variant of the Mi 6 will come with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Coming to the premium variant, the onboard storage is said to be doubled up to 64GB with the same 4GB of RAM. The Mi 6 is said to feature ceramic body, but we expect it to be a special edition device rather than a commercial device. Last year’s Mi 5 came in two variants featuring glass back body and also a special edition device with 3D ceramic body.

Talking about the cameras of Mi 6, the front camera will be featuring an 8MP IMX268 autofocus sensor with 5P lens and f/2.0 aperture. On the rear is a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor which is also used on the Meizu MX6 smartphone. Since the authenticity of the above mentioned specifications is not verified, take these details with a pinch of salt until there is an official confirmation. Along with China, the Mi 6 will be made available in India and Southeast Asian markets like Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan.
