2G Networks are Switching Off – Nokia 3310 Useless in Australia, USA, Canada & Singapore
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Nokia launched the new redesigned Nokia 3310 feature phone a couple of weeks back at the MWC 2017, and the whole world is going crazy about it. The new redesigned Nokia 3310 is more or less the same old Nokia 3310 in a new shell which comes in a variety of different colors to choose from. The look of the phone is not the best, and most won’t even like it. However, the looks are not what makes the phone what it is and there are people out there who are willing to buy it just to play the Snake 2 game.
With that said, the decision of buying the phone is completely upto you. However, there are certain things which you need to know about the phone before making a purchase decision. First of all, one of the biggest issue with the phone is its support for wireless bands. Since it is a reincarnation of the old Nokia 3310, we can’t expect much from it, and as a matter of fact, we don’t really have anything to expect from the phone in this department. This new redesigned Nokia 3310 holds the same old band frequencies. Is that a bad news? Yes, it is indeed a bad news for a lot of people.
10 Valid Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Buy the New Nokia 3310 Phone
The original Nokia 3310 had support for two bands i.e. 900MHZ and 1800MHz on GSM network. Back in the days, this was a huge deal, and it was completely fine for the 2G connections. However, we are in 2017 now, and with the rapid advancement in technology, unfortunately, the older frequencies are not active in most countries. The phone will not work properly in the U.S, Canada, Singapore, and although it is making a debut in Asia Pacific, it won’t work properly in Australia either. Most of the telecom operators in these countries have pulled the plug from 2G and the remaining few are also on the verge of doing the same by the end of this year.
In Singapore, 2G networks will become inactive from April 2017. The Singapore’s one of the largest telecom operator StarHub stated that all the 2G only phones like the Nokia 3310 will not be able to make calls, send SMS, or use data services once the services are dead. And talking about India, although most telecom operators still support the service, the new networks like Jio 4G which is taking the nation by storm, does not support 2G or 3G at all. Hence, you won’t be able to use the Nokia 3310 on Jio. A sad news indeed.
The Nokia 3310 supports 900MHz and 1800MHz frequencies which makes it completely unusable in U.S. & Canada. For the phone to work worldwide on all networks, it needs the support for 850MHZ, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and 1900MHz, which clearly the Nokia 3310 lacks.
