After several leaks and rumors, the Nokia 8 is now officially launched by HMD Global at the event held in London. This is the fourth Android powered smartphone from Nokia. Earlier to this, the company launched the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 smartphones at MWC 2017. As rumors suggested, the new Nokia 8 comes with top notch specifications and competes with the other flagship devices like Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, and HTC U11. The Nokia 8 is priced at EUR 599 and will be available from early September. It comes in Polished Copper, Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, and Steel finishes.
The Nokia 8 comes with metallic unibody design and chamfered edges. It sports a 5.3-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the top. Under the hood, the Nokia 8 is powered by 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor built using the 10nm FinFET process. It comes coupled with Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB of RAM. There is 64GB of internal storage that can be expandable up to another 256GB via a MicroSD card slot. The device is also splash-proof, thanks to the IP54 certification.
There are no fancy features like bezel-less or edge displays. However, it comes with a dual camera setup on the rear featuring 13MP RGB sensor and 13MP Monochrome sensor. It includes PDAF, laser autofocus, and dual-tone LED flash. Nokia also resumed its partnership with Zeiss optics for this dual-lens camera. For selfies, there is another 13MP on the front. Both the front and rear cameras are capable of recording in 4k resolution. The Nokia 8 also supports dual SIM dual standby using the hybrid SIM slot where the user can add two SIM cards or one SIM and one MicroSD card.
It is kept powered on by a 3,090mAh non-removable battery. The device will be running on the latest Android 7.1.1 out of the box and is confirmed to receive the Android O update. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, and USB Type-C 3.1 port.
