Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs Galaxy Note 7 FE vs Galaxy S8 Plus – What’s the Difference?

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

After several months of rumors and leaks, Samsung has officially unveiled the latest Galaxy Note smartphone at the Unpacked event held in New York. The all-new Galaxy Note 8 was leaked in all glory and now we got the official confirmation of the same. The Galaxy Note 8 will be the successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 7 and there will be no battery issues as seen on its predecessor. The Galaxy Note 7 which was later brought to the market as Galaxy Note 7 FE (Fan Edition) is a nightmare to the company. More than the Galaxy Note 7, the Galaxy Note 8 seems o have borrowed more clues from the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones launched in the first half of 2017.

Below is the comparison of the newly launched Galaxy Note 8 with Galaxy Note FE (Note 7) and Galaxy S8 Plus:

Design

Just like the Galaxy S8 Plus & Note 7, the new Galaxy Note 8 also comes with an Aluminium frame covered with glass on the front and rear. It also got the same curved edges as on the Galaxy S8 Plus & Note 7. Out of the three devices, the corners on the Galaxy S8 Plus are more rounded. From the front, the new Galaxy Note 8 looks more like the Galaxy S8 Plus than the Galaxy Note 7, all thanks to the Infinity display. While the Galaxy Note 7 has a physical home button with an integrated fingerprint sensor and capacitive navigation buttons, the Galaxy Note 8 and S8 Plus sports rear-facing fingerprint sensor and on-screen navigation buttons. The bottom strip on the Galaxy Note 8 and S8 Plus also has 3D Touch functionality.

Display

The Galaxy Note 8 sports the largest display among the three with a 6.3-inch infinity display. It additionally comes with Mobile HDR Premium playback. While the Galaxy Note 7 offers Quad HD resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio, the Galaxy Note 8 and S8 Plus offers Quad HD+ (2960 x 1440 pixel) resolution with 18:9 aspect ratio. All the three devices feature Super AMOLED panel which is the best display panel ever seen on any smartphone. They also offer Always-On display but its functionality is improving by the software updates. The Galaxy Note 8 & S8 Plus also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and back.

Camera

In the camera department, the Galaxy Note 8 is much ahead of the previously launched Galaxy smartphone. It is the first Samsung smartphone to sport dual camera setup and also the world’s first smartphone to come with dual OIS. There are 12MP dual cameras on the back of Galaxy Note 8 that can capture images with 2X optical zoom. The camera app on the Galaxy Note 8 also includes new features like Live Focus and Dual Capture mode. On the other hand, the Galaxy S8 Plus and Galaxy Note 7 shares the same 12MP sensor. Coming to the selfie experience, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with the same 8MP sensor with the f/1.7 aperture as seen on the Galaxy S8 Plus.

Battery

While we can’t comment on the battery life of the devices without hands-on testing, let’s look at the battery specifications and new technologies. After the Galaxy Note 7 battery explosions, Samsung came up with the 8-point battery safety check to offer safer Galaxy smartphones. All the three devices support adaptive fast charging via wired and wireless options. Even with the slightly larger form factor, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with a smaller 3,300mAh battery compared to the 3,500mAh battery on the Galaxy S8 Plus. The Galaxy Note 7 came with a smaller 3,200mAh when it was relaunched as Galaxy Note Fan Edition.
