Gionee has officially started to sell its Marathon M5 Plus. The information comes straight from the brand. The first Marathon series handset sporting a fingerprint sensor is available for purchase in India at Rs 26,999. Initially launched in China in December last year the brand has finally started to sell their latest Marathon handset in the country. This all metal bodied handset looks premium and sports decently powered specifications.

Speaking on the launch occasion, Arvind R Vohra, CEO of Gionee India said,
“We are thrilled to bring the M5 Plus to India. The device is a perfect reflection of a beautifully crafted powerhouse. Our motto with the Marathon series remains the same with each device to make people’s life stress-free with no battery issues bothering them. We at Gionee believe that smartphone are needed to take down your burdens not add on it, hence, we design our devices as per the utmost needs of our consumers.”

As announced earlier, Gionee had officially launched the upgraded Maraton M5 Plus at the global launch event in China. On December 1st, we had exclusively covered the possible specifications and first look images of the device which are almost similar to the official specifications. The Marathon M5 Plus is the successor for popular Marathon M5 that was launched last month in India. The device looks premium in hand with all metal body and a slim body.

The device comes with a physical home button that will also include a fingerprint sensor. The earlier launched Elife E8 is the first ever smartphone from Gionee to sport a fingerprint sensor, and the Marathon M5 Plus is the company’s first smartphone to include a physical home button. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Gionee’s custom Amigo 3.1 UI overlaid. It features a 2.5D 6-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD resolution and Gorilla Glass protection on top of it.

Under the hood is the 64-bit MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It has 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. The Marathon M5 was so popular because of its dual batteries of a total capacity of 6,020mAh. But its successor Marathon M5 Plus comes with a slightly smaller 5,020mAh battery, that is rated to give 53 hours of talk time and lasts up to 829 hours on standby.

It has Dual Charging chips that make the massive battery charge faster than ever; this is the similar technology that was introduced with the recently launched Vivo X6 and X6 Plus. The device also supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G LTE connectivity on both the SIM’s. As seen earlier, the Gionee smartphones come with Amigo features like AmiClone, and now the company has added few more apps like Gionee Mailbox, Child Clone and Ami Locker.

Connectivity on this device includes VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, and a Type-C USB 2.0 port. It has a 13MP rear camera with PDAF and LED flash, and a 5MP front camera for selfies. These are the same set of cameras that are present on the Marathon M5. With the added security features, the Marathon M5 Plus is well optimized for business usage. It measures 8.4mm thick and weighs 208 grams.

The Mailbox can log-in with just one click with the included fingerprint sensor and with the Child Mode, using the smartphone or a specific app can be limited by usage time. The device is priced at 2,499 Yuan (approx $385 / Rs. 25,500) and will be available starting from December 25th in China. As of now there is no information about the availability of the device in Indian markets, stay tuned for more information.
