Moto G4 Vs Moto G4 Plus Comparison

After purchasing Motorola from Google, Lenovo has finally started to do some changes to the iconic company, which was started by dropping the Motorola branding globally from the smartphones and wearables products company offers. So, it can be said that the devices that was launched by company today are the first under this new revamped brand. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus were launched in India today and it was actually a global launch event as these devices were revealed to the world for the first time.

In this post, we are comparing the fresh out of the oven Moto devices; the G4 and G4 Plus. These are the fourth-generation handsets in the Moto G Series, which is the mid-range series brought by the company couple years ago when they thought that it was time to introduce a device with affordable price tag and greater performance.

Display

These two fourth-generation handsets offer same full HD displays, as they have the same real estate at 5.5-inch. The display has a pixel density of up to 401 PPI (Pixel Per Inch), which is quite on par with the size of the display it comes with. Moreover, there is a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection covering the display on both of these smartphones.

Hardware

Powered by an Octa-Core Qualcomm chipset, it’s a Snapdragon 617, which is in line to the 615 chipset that we saw last year. But to remind you Moto G 2015 variant came with a Snapdragon 410, thus, the SD 617 is a big jump. The latest processor clocks at 1.5GHz and has a support of Adreno 405 GPU at 550MHz. In terms of the RAM and internal storage, G4 Plus comes with options of 2GB/3GB and 16GB/32GB internal storage. Whereas the G4 comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Both handsets support expansion up to 128GB via microSD card. The major difference in terms of hardware is the fingerprint sensor; the bigger sibling G4 Plus has a fingerprint sensor, while the little sibling G4 doesn’t sport one. The battery capacity has been increased a lot from 2470mAh on last year’s model to the 3000mAh on this year’s models. Interesting fact is that they both will come with Turbo Charging support and Turbo Charger adapter inside the retail box.

Software

They both will be running on the almost stock Android UI, which is what company has been known for. But you should expect some interesting set of features like Moto Display, the active notifications feature as well as Moto Connect, which keeps your device silent and accidentally ringing in the middle of the meeting. Moto brand thrives on Good user experience and many like that about it. The Android OS that you would be seeing on the G4 and G4 Plus out of the box is 6.0.1 Marshmallow. In terms of the connectivity the device will support dual SIM with 4G SIM support and a VoLTE (Voice over LTE network). So you can expect better voice calling quality on these handsets once VoLTE services rolls out.

Camera

There is a huge difference in terms of camera quality, the G4 comes with a 13MP rear module with f/2.2 aperture and supporting is the color balancing LED Flash. The camera module is said to have a 84 degree wide angle for wider shots. Talking about the G4 Plus, it has a 16MP OmniVison PureCel Plus sensor on the rear, which company is touting as one of the best 16MP module out there in this segment. Moreover, it also boasts two technologies for focusing, i.e. Laser Autofocus and PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus). It has a f/2.0 aperture and 1.3 micron size lens, which is a huge deal. We are expecting it to give good low light results, as company promises.

Verdict

The pricing of the G4 is yet to be announced, while the G4 Plus has been announced, 2GB RAM variant is at Rs 13,499, while the 3GB RAM variant is priced at Rs 14,999. Well, it is likely that G4 would be priced closed to Rs 10K, if the company wants to maintain its position in the mid range. In these couple of months, there has been a whole lot going on in the mid-segment. It’s fine if you wanted to know the comparison between these two Motorola handsets, but overall it looks like Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Meizu M3 Note offers quite good specifications under Rs 10K. Unless you’re a loyal Moto fan, Xiaomi and Meizu handsets offer good quality and performance and moreover they are metal bodied handsets, if that is something you want on your next smartphone.
