After 8 years, Gmail Attachment Size limit increased from 25MB to 50MB

Gmail is one of the most popular free web-based e-mail service that is available to the users. A majority of people prefer Gmail when it comes to opening a new e-mail account. Gmail also has its mobile application which is available on a wide variety of platforms which includes Android, iOS, Blackberry OS, etc. While it is quite popular and it is being used by million of users across the globe, there are certain downsides to it. One of them is that it restricts users from receiving emails with attachments more than 25MB.

However, according to the new reports, it looks like we finally have some good news on this front. In the latest Gsuite blog post, it has been reported that users can now open attachments in the incoming mail of up to 50 megabytes in size. So Google has definitely raised the bar here but they are still not quite there yet. The outgoing emails still can’t send anything more than 25MBs which is the standard which we had earlier. Hence it is worth mentioning that this is only incoming emails for Gmails.

The blog post also clearly mentions that the limit applies to the replies as well. Having said that, it is also important to note that one can receive only 50MB worth of attachments. If you try to receive two 50MB attachments in the same email, then even that is not going to work either, just like how two 25MB attachments won’t work when you try to send it. Hence it is safe to that the change is good to have but they’re still not quite there yet.

Users who are willing to send emails with huge attachments i.e. more than 25MB, then they are free to do so by using Google Drive. It has been noted that this change is simply to make things comparatively easier for users who are trying to receive huge attachments. However, we are glad that this change is now in place since it makes things a lot easier when you try to receive huge files like maybe a PhotoShop file, etc. This new functionality will be rolling out to all the users over the next couple of days and you should be soon able to receive attachments upto 50MB.
