Moto X 2016 Devices with Modular Capabilities to Launch on June 9th
The leaked renders of the Moto X 2016 device showed the redefined design of the devices. As seen with rumored Moto G4 Plus, the Moto X 2016 device also come with a square shaped home button that also includes the fingerprint sensor. The vertical camera strip is no more present on this device, instead there is big circular camera module including the LED flash and laser autofocus.
According to Venturebeat, the company will be launching not one but two Moto X devices this year. The devices were internally called as “Moto X Vertex” and “Moto X Vector Thin.” The Moto X Vector Thin is a mid-range device while the Moto X Vertex is an high-end device with modular capabilities. Both these devices are expected to launch at Lenovo Tech World scheduled on June 9th.
The modular plates called as “Amps” can be attached magnetically to the 16 pin setup found on the back of the device. Along with Motorola, we can also see few 3rd party Amps. The company is expected to showcase at least six modules (Amps) at the time of launch including the stereo speakers, battery pack, camera grip (with optical zoom and additional flash) and pico projector.
There is also an additional rugged module with the wide-angle lens. The magnetic connection allows for simple connection and removal while the LG G5 needs the battery to be removed for adding its friends. Both the Moto X 2016 variants sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED displays, the Vector Thin comes with Quad HD resolution and the Vertex includes a Full HD resolution display.
Vector Thin is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.0GHz and coupled with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the Vertex is backed by a Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor along with 3GB/2GB of RAM and 32GB/16GB of onboard storage. The two devices will be running on latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS.
In the camera department, interestingly the Vertex comes with a 16MP rear camera with PDAF, OIS, and Laser Autofocus while the Vector Thin settles for just 13MP sensor and also misses the PDAF. The Moto X 2016 Vertex is kept powered on by a 3,500mAh battery and measures 7mm thickness. The high-end Vector Thin carries a smaller 2,600mAh battery for making the device slimmer by measuring just 5.2mm thickness.
While these devices are expected to launch on June 9th, the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus will be launched in India on May 17th. Since there is no official information about the launch of Moto X 2016 devices, we can expect some sort f announcement at the Moto G4 launch event. Stay tuned for more updates about the upcoming Moto X devices!
