Samsung sells 18% more Premium Smartphones over Apple in India

The smartphones priced over Rs. 30,000 are said to fall under the premium category. The tech giants like Samsung and Apple are the biggest rivals in this price segment in any market. Recent, Counterpoint Research report claims that Samsung has sold 18% more premium smartphones than its arch rival Apple in the financial year 2015-16 in India. With the primary focus of Apple being the premium segment these results are not going to help, and the trend has to be changed quickly.

According to the research report, the Samsung’s market share in the premium segment for the year ended 2015-16 stood at 47% while the Apple’s share was 45%. It is exactly opposite to the results of the previous year, where Apple led the market with a share of 43% while Samsung share was 35%. As per the numbers shared by retail market tracker Gfk, Samsung is also leading the volume share with 56% and value share with 55.7% when compared to Apple’s volume share of 37.9% and value share of 39.5%.

The report states that Samsung graph has been going upwards because of the success of the Samsung’s Edge series devices, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was also sold in good numbers. Samsung seems to have hit the right chord this year as well with the early launch of its flagship Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge at competitive pricing. On the other hand, Apple launched the 4-inch iPhone SE but has been unnoticed by most of the users because of the high price tag it carries.

Samsung launches the smartphones in every price segment and has been ruling the Indian smartphone market from past couple of years. The brand occupies a share of 26.6% in the Indian smartphone market while Apple with only premium smartphone range is way behind with just 2% of total share. Samsung would like to hold its market grip with the launch of the upcoming flagship Samsung Galaxy Note 6 that is rated to offer 6GB of RAM. On the other hand, Apple would be keen to turn the tables with the Apple’s iPhone 7 series smartphones.
