List of Xiaomi Smartphones Compatible to get the MIUI 8 Beta Update in India
Xiaomi India at its event in New Delhi, announced the new MIUI 8, apart from launching the Xiaomi Mi Max India. Check out our full written review of the Mi Max here. Hugo Barra, Xiaomi Global Vice President, unveiled the MIUI 8 Global ROM at the event and revealed the MIUI ecosystem currently has 200 million users. The MIUI 8 Global ROM will be available from July 11 in the form of OTA updates. More details on the MIUI 8 Global ROM can be found on the Mi Community and the MIUI Forums.
The list of devices eligible for the public beta of the MIUI 8 Global ROM was also listed. The list includes Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi Note, Mi 4i, Mi 4, Mi 3, and Mi 2. In the Redmi Series, the eligible devices are Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 2, and Redmi 1s.
The public launch of the stable version of the MIUI 8 Global ROM is on August 16th. There are a variety of new features in the MIUI 8. The list includes Cloud Sync that helps you save more space in your device by storing low-resolution images on your phone and original high-resolution images will be available in the cloud. A new video editing option is also included, where now videos can be trimmed, and also multiple effects can be added. Another feature is the Quick ball, which is essentially a rapid launch menu where you can store up to 5 menus for quickly launching them. The quick ball will also be available from the lock screen.
Scrolling screenshot is one of the new features that was demonstrated. It allows you to take a continuous screenshot of the page without restricting the user to the content on the screen. Another noteworthy feature is the Dual app. It allows you to run two instances of any application on a smartphone like having two instances of Whatsapp. Users in India will exclusively get ringtones from Hungama (free), and T9 prediction will also be available. A smart caller ID feature is also available in both Dialer and Messaging app. Stay tuned for more updates on features from MIUI 8.
