Ringing Bells to Ship 2 Lakh Freedom 251 Smartphones from June 30
The world’s cheapest smartphone, Freedom 251 at 251 INR (less than $4) is expected to make a come back after all the controversies. The Noida-based startup Ringing Bells Pvt Ltd, says that they have made it possible despite all the controversies and false talks about the brand and it’s reliability. Because of its price, nobody expected this device ever to launch in the market and in fact FIR was filed against the company.
Earlier, the company gave a refund to around 30,000 customers and gave them an option of cash on delivery, when the product arrives at their doorstep. But apparently, the delivery is still a work in progress, and nobody got their devices. But now according to a new source, the company is going to start the delivery from 30th June. Apparently, the company is ready with the first 2 lakh handsets.
And adding on to this, the CEO said, once the delivery of these 2 lakh handsets is done, they will again reopen the registrations for those who wish to buy the smartphone. According to the CEO, they are facing a solid 140-150 INR loss on each unit, but they are hoping to make profits on volume. The smartphone is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and an 8GB internal storage. It is also expandable upto 32GB. It also sports an 8-megapixel rear facing camera and a 3.2-megapixel front facing shooter.
It will have a 1,800 mAh battery. The phone will ship in two color variants i.e., black and white. We have no confirmation on the exact delivery dates, but as mentioned before the company claims that it will be delivering 2 lakh units starting June 30th. But note that, the company made similar promises before but failed to deliver them. Initially, they were also going to ship around 30,000 units in May, but even that remained a story.
Also, the brand hasn’t even shipped their first handset; the Smart 101, which they claimed was the cheapest 4G handset priced at 2,999 INR. So, looking at the records, it is highly possible that they won’t be shipping this time as well. But let’s not assume anything at this point and wait until June 30th and see if we get any update from the company regarding the same. Stay tuned for more information on this.
