Xiaomi working on a VR headset with Google Daydream, expected to launch in August
Google announced their new VR platform called Daydream and announced a handful of partners that will manufacture the hardware for this ambitious project. Xiaomi is one of the partners that will make these VR headsets that will be compatible with the platform. Its been only a month and the Chinese manufacturer is already set to launch their VR headset in the market.
According to the reports, this could be the company’s take on Daydream, or it could just be a regular VR headset just like many other manufacturers like OnePlus and Samsung launched. But Xiaomi GM, Tang Mu kind of confirmed it that this headset will be designed with Daydream in mind. He also said that the headset will be available to purchase starting this August. This would allow all the developers to go ahead and optimize their content for its MIUI software.
This entry of the company into yet another market other than smartphones is not a surprise, as it’s already expanding the range of products since last year. The list of products by the company includes Bluetooth speakers, Fitness bands, Water Purifiers and also the recently launched QiCycle Electric bike, etc.
Xiaomi (Mijia) announces a Folding Bike called as QiCycle at 19,999 Yuan / Rs 2 Lakh. Weighs just 7 Kgs. http://pic.twitter.com/jUmSSyfieu

Oddly, the GM also stated that Xiaomi alone could deliver the best VR headset for the best MIUI integration and experience. This could possibly mean that Xiaomi might also release a smartphone compatible with Daydream. Note that; currently, no smartphones in the market supports Google’s VR project. The only handset that is compatible right now for the developers is the Nexus 6P. But more and more new smartphones will be added to the list by the year end.
We have no information on the availability and pricing of this headset in India. If you are in the market for a new VR Headset right now, then you have a variety of options to choose from various manufacturers like Samsung, OnePlus, Lenovo, Coolpad, etc. As far as pricing is concerned, we are expecting the company to price this headset on the same lines of other products from them and go for a more pocket-friendly offering. But we have no official confirmation on the pricing yet, so stay tuned for more updates.
