Earlier this month, few rumors suggested the Taiwanese smartphone maker, HTC to launch budget smartphone codenamed Desire A17 alongside the HTC Bolt smartphone. Though the HTC Bolt was made official last week in the U.S; the rumored device was launched as Desire 650 along with the HTC Evo 10, the international variant of the Sprint-exclusive HTC Bolt. The new HTC Desire 650 smartphone comes with lower mid-range specifications along with some interesting design. It sports a polycarbonate shell with a textured finish on the bottom rear of the device which comes in White and Black colors. The logo, power button, and rear camera frame will come in Yellow and Blue color for the White and Black color variants respectively. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the latest HTC Sense UI laid on top.
The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the latest HTC Sense 8 UI laid on top. While the recently launched high-end devices from HTC will be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat, we don’t think the Desire 650 to be updated anytime soon. It comes with a 5-inch LCD display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution and is protected by the Gorilla Glass laid on top. Under the hood, the device is powered by an unknown Snapdragon processor; we expect this to be the Snapdragon 210 SoC clocked at 1.1GHz along with Adreno 304 GPU. It has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be further expanded technically upto 2TB. In the camera department, there is a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. While on the front is a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.8 aperture.
It is backed by a 2,200mAh battery that is rated to give upto 17.5 hours of talk time and lasts upto 28.5 days on standby mode. The Desire 650 measures 146.9 x 70.9 x 8.4 mm and weighs 140 grams. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, A-GPS, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. The Desire 650 also includes front-facing Boomsound stereo speakers. As far as the pricing is considered, it costs NT$ 5,490 (approx $172 / RS. 11,800) in Taiwan and will be available in stock in the next few weeks. On the other hand, the HTC 10 Evo with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display and IP57 certification is on sale for NT$ 17,900 (approx $562 / Rs. 38,500) for the 32GB storage variant and NT$ 19,900 (approx $625 / Rs. 42,800) for the 64GB storage variant.
There is no information about the launch of these devices in the Indian market. We will be updating once there is any official update from HTC India about the launch both the HTC 10 Evo and Desire 650. Talking about the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update for the HTC smartphones, the HTC 10 is expected to receive the update in the next couple of weeks. As of now, there is no official confirmation about the availability of the latest Android update for HTC One A9 or the One M9 before the upcoming holiday season.
