Upcoming LG G6 Rumored to Feature IRIS Scanner & MST Payment Technology

LG G5 - Front Bottom

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

LG is rumored to unveil its upcoming flagship smartphone LG G6 at the MWC 2017. It will be the successor to the last year’s LG G5 which received mixed reviews with semi-modular parts called as Friends. Now, the LG G6 might skip the modular design in favor making it more consumer friendly. Though there is no any sort of official information regarding the device, the rumors mills are already circulating few new features of the device. Next year, LG will be introducing IRIS scanner and mobile payment technologies with the launch of LG G6. Recently, the company has unveiled its new module which features both front camera and IRIS sensor at an event held in Seoul, South Korea.

The IRIS scanner is one of the new feature introduced by Samsung with Galaxy Note 7, though the device was later pulled out of production due to battery problems. The Galaxy Note 7 came with two different sensors, one for front camera sensor and the other for IRIS scanner; but the upcoming LG smartphone with the newly launched module has only one sensor with both the functions. Apart from LG smartphones, we might also see the similar sensor in other high-end smartphones by the end of 2017. Talking about the mobile payment services, LG might seem to be late in introducing while Samsung Pay and Apple Pay are already popular in most of the developed countries.

Nonetheless, the company’s payment system will be based on Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology instead of Near Field Communication (NFC). While most of the recently launched smartphones support only NFC based payment technology, not all the payment terminal’s support them. With the MST payment technology, all the payment terminals that support card swiping also works with MST based mobile payment technology. Even before to the latest Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, LG launched the V20 as the world’s first smartphone to run on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Later launched Pixel phones came with updated Android 7.1 Nougat with the exclusive Google Assistant feature.

The LG G6 can be expected to run on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box with the latest UX UI on top. Along with the LG G6, we will also see the launch of Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge smartphones. Both the devices are expected to be powered by the Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 835 SoC. This new processor will be produced using Samsung 10nm FinFET process. It is said to be clocked at 3.0GHz and coupled with Adreno 540 GPU. While most of the Chinese manufacturers came with 6GB RAM smartphones in 2016, next year we expect other manufacturers to opt for 6GB of RAM. Samsung has exclusively launched the Galaxy C9 Pro in China with 6GB of RAM.

The removable battery which is consistently seen on LG smartphones might be continued with the LG G6 as well. As the official launch is expected after the next couple of months, we might be seeing more and more leaks in the coming days revealing even more authentic information. Until then take this with a pinch of salt and stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details about the upcoming flagship smartphone from LG.
