Recently Huawei has lost its number one position in China to OPPO, but while coming to the global list of largest smartphone manufacturers, it is comfortably placed in the third position. While most of the well established smartphone brands are diversified into other range of consumer electronics; Huawei has stuck with smartphones and routers. Apart from smartphones, Huawei is one of the largest players in networking and telecommunication equipment business. But now latest rumors from China suggests the company may enter the laptop market in 2017.

Foxconn is said to act as an ODM (original design manufacturer) for the notebooks. In the coming days, the company might make more ties with Taiwanese manufacturers to bring more products covering the different segments of laptop and PC market. Earlier this year, another Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi launched its first laptop called Mi Notebook Air with 12.5-inch and 13.3-inch screen sizes. The upcoming Foxconn made Huawei notebooks will be available in 13-inch and 15-inch variants. Though there is no official confirmation, the new notebooks will be unveiled in mid 2017.

At the MWC 2016 held in February this year, Huawei unveiled its first ever 2-in-1 tablet called MateBook powered by Windows 10 OS. It is available in 4GB and 8GB RAM variants with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage variants. Under the hood, the MateBook includes 6th Gen Intel Core M processor (m3/m5). On the front is a 12-inch Full HD IPS display with 2160 x 1440 pixels resolution. It has only one USB Type-C port which can also be used for charging and a 3.5mm port for audio input and output. The 2-in-1 tablet packs a 4,430mAh battery that is said to give 9 hours of battery life.

The fingerprint sensor on the side edge makes the Matebook compatible with Windows Hello. Huawei is also offering detachable keyboard case with leather finish and stylus called Mate Pen. Though the tablet comes with only one USB Type-C port, the All-in-one MateDock brings USB Type-C, Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, and two USB 3.0 ports. Apart from MateBook, the MateDock can be even used with the latest Apple MacBook Pros that features only the USB Type-C ports. It is priced at $89 and needs to be purchased separately.
