Best Upcoming Smartphones of May 2016 – Expected Specs & Features
In the month of May, we are going to see some Chinese brands launching their devices in India. While we know everything about the device, the pricing will be more interesting. Last month can see some big launches in the month of February. While few other brands had already confirmed the launch of their upcoming and you can find all information about those devices below. Even there are few interesting announcements scheduled for May in China which will be later launched in India.
Motorola had scheduled an event on May 17th in New Delhi, India where it is expected to launch the Moto G4 & Moto G4 Plus. The devices will be the successor for the popular 3rd Gen Moto G. They are expected to sport IP68 certification making the device waterproof and dustproof. While both the are variants are rumored to feature almost similar specification, the G4 Plus additionally comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded into the physical home button.
The Moto G4 is rumored to sport 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display. It will be powered by an unknown octa-core processor but we expect it to be Snapdragon 652 SoC. The device comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot. We can see some interchangeable back cover in different colors to be launched alongside the device. As per the rumor mills, the Moto G4 comes with a 13MP rear camera while the G4 Plus comes with 16MP sensor.
Along with the Pro 6 and Meizu M3 smartphones, Meizu also launched the mid-range Meizu M3 Note in China. The device will be launched in India on May 11th. It is the successor to Meizu M2 Note that was also launched last year in India. It sports an all metal body with rounded corners. The M3 Note comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with a 2.5D glass on top of it. It was launched in 2GB and 3GB variants with 16GB and 32GB of internal storages respectively.
Under the hood is an Helio P10 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The device runs on Flyme 5.1 OS based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It sports a 13MP primary camera with PDAF and f/2.2 aperture. For selfie lovers, it includes a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture. The device is kept powered on by a 4,100mAh battery that can last upto 16 days on standby. There is also a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button. The device comes with dual SIM support with 4G LTE connectivity.
ZUK had debuted the smartphone market by launching the ZUK Z1 smartphone in August 2015 with in-house ZUI for Chinese users and Cyanogen OS for international users. Recently the company also launched the ZUK Z2 Pro smartphone with flagship specifications. Now Lenovo had sent out the press invites for the launch of ZUK Z1 smartphone in India in next couple of weeks. It sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display and comes powered by years old Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz.
It includes 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage without MicroSD card slot. The device features a 13MP primary camera with OIS and an 8MP front camera. It is backed by a whopping 4,100mAh that easily last more than a day of usage. Though the device came with Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box, we expect it runs on Marshmallow since the international users already received the latest Android update. The Home button on the front also houses the fingerprint sensor. It measures 155.7×77.3×8.9mm and weighs 175 grams.
Unlike the most smartphones we had seen in the past, the Nextbit Robin was born through a Kickstarter campaign. The device cleverly manages the onboard and cloud storage to free the device storage. It comes with 32GB of non-expandable storage and 100GB of cloud storage, but with India’s slowest internet speeds the device cannot reach to the masses. Apart from this, the device packs decent hardware and the device success can be estimated once we get the official pricing.
The device sports a 5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with thick bezels around it. under the hood is the Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor coupled with Adreno 418 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It comes with a polycarbonate shell and the fingerprint sensor on the right edge as seen on Xperia Z5 series. The Robin includes 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and a 2680mAh battery. Recently, it also received the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update.
Xiaomi will be launching its biggest ever smartphone Mi Max on May 10th in China. It comes with a massive 6.4-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Alongside the Mi Max, the company will also release the latest MIUI 8 running on latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. We got to know about few specifications from the GFXbench listing, where the device is expected to run on Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz.
The device might come with 2GB and 3GB RAM options and includes 16GB and 32GB of internal storages respectively. According to the listing, the device sports 16MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. A leaked image also suggests the device to come with the same design as flagship Mi 5 but without the front logo. The Mi Max looks like a 6.4-inch Mi 5 with Redmi Note 3 internals. If the mentioned specifications come true, the device can be priced anywhere around 1299 Yuan in China.
Along with the 6.4-inch Mi Max, the high-end Honor V8 will be also launched on May 10th in China. It comes with an all metal body and includes 12MP dual rear cameras with laser autofocus and dual LED flash. The device will be launched in three variants powered by in-house Kirin 950/955 octa-core processor with 3GB/4GB of RAM. The high-end variant comes with a Quad HD resolution while the other two variants are limited to just Full HD resolution.
All the three variants run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with customized EMUI laid on top. There is also an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The fingerprint sensor placed on the rear can also be used as the shutter button. Connectivity features include 4G LTE with VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS/GLONASS, and a USB Type-C port. The devices are backed by a 3,400mAh non-removable battery that also supports fast charging.
