Google Play quietly rolls out Carrier Billing for Idea users in India
If this is the first time you are hearing about “Carrier Billing”, its not your fault because this is the first time its being introduced here in India. According to a post on Reddit, Idea cellular users can now opt for this feature on the Google Play Store and pay for the applications they wish to through their Mobile Phone balance. Its already been launched in the US from the past few years and this is finally rolling out in India.
This is the first time this feature was found LIVE, and we hope its extended to the Airtel, Vodafone & other network users too. This may not be a huge deal for everyone but if you look into the number of users who own a Credit Card in the country, you would find the number to be too less.
Google seems to have started with Idea Cellular for this service, while we are hoping that down the line other networks should be out soon. In simple terms users can purchase their favorite applications on the Play Store or even the movies & pay using the phone’s network. It is actually a very simple process and you won’t have to worry about your Credit Card or Debit Card and get into multiple billing.
If you are someone who just wants to get this feature on their account, its time to swap from any network to Idea using the Mobile Number Portability service.
