Weekly Wrap-Up #12 : Docoss X1, Meizu M3, Nextbit Robin, OnePlus 3, Mi Max, Moto G4 & More…
The final wrap-up for the month of April 2016 is here with the all the details of the latest launched smartphones and developments in the smartphone industry. There are few smartphones that have received the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. This week we also got some information regarding the upcoming smartphone that will be launched in the month of May.
- Blackberry‘s first Android-powered smartphone Priv had received the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. After months of beta testing, the company had finally come up with a public release. This new update brings the improved privacy and security features. With the latest update, the device supports 4K video recording at 25fps and slo-mo at 120 fps. The updated Blackberry Keyboard offers better predictive typing and supports over 200 new emojis. The built-in DTEK app manages the permissions of the apps installed. This updates also includes Android security patch updates for the month of May 2016.
- Nextbit will be launching their cloud first smartphone Robin in India this month. While the device was launched with Android 5.1 Lolipop, last week Nextbit had rolled out the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. It also includes Android Security Patch updates for the month of April. The recent update brings few improvements in camera app along with bug fixes. With the added sound tuning, the speakers sound better than ever even at higher volumes. We guess the device will be launched in India with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
- OnePlus will be launching their next-gen flagship OnePlus 3 (A3000) later this year. The device is said to sport a whopping 6GB of RAM and Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based in-house Oxygen OS. On board the device we can find a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. Along with the 6GB RAM variant, the company might also launch one more variant with 4GB RAM and lower storage capacity. It with a USB Type-C port as seen with the last years OnePlus 2. OnePlus might still stick to Full HD instead of Quad HD resolution.
Xiaomi will be launching its biggest ever smartphone Mi Max on May 10th in China. It comes with a massive 6.4-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Alongside the Mi Max, the company will also release the latest MIUI 8 running on latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. We got to know about few specifications from the GFXbench listing, where the device is expected to run on Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz.
The device might come with 2GB and 3GB RAM options and includes 16GB and 32GB of internal storages respectively. According to the listing, the device sports 16MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. A leaked image also suggests the device to come with the same design as flagship Mi 5 but without the front logo. The Mi Max looks like a 6.4-inch Mi 5 with Redmi Note 3 internals. If the mentioned specifications come true, the device can be priced anywhere around 1299 Yuan in China.
After launching the Meizu M3 Note and Pro 6, Meizu also unveiled the entry-level Meizu M3 in China. It is the successor to Meizu M2 that was also launched last year in India. It comes with polycarbonate body with rounded corners. The M3 features a 5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. It is powered by MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz along with Mali T860 GPU. It runs on Flyme 5.1 powered by YunOS but in it runs on Android based Flyme OS.
The device comes in two variants with 2GB and 3GB of RAM and includes 16GB and 32GB of internal storage. There is also a MicroSD card slot for expanding additionally upto 128GB. Talking about the camera, there is a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF. On the front is a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The device supports dual SIM and is backed by a 2,870mAh battery. It will be available in several color options including White, Blue, Gray, Pink and Gold.
Motorola had scheduled an event on May 17th in New Delhi, India where it is expected to launch the Moto G4 & Moto G4 Plus. The devices will be the successor for the popular 3rd Gen Moto G. They are expected to sport IP68 certification making the device waterproof and dustproof. While both the are variants are rumored to feature almost similar specification, the G4 Plus additionally comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded into the physical home button.
The Moto G4 is rumored to sport 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display. It will be powered by an unknown octa-core processor, but we expect it to be Snapdragon 652 SoC. The device comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot. We can see some interchangeable back cover in different colors to be launched alongside the device. As per the rumor mills, the Moto G4 comes with a 13MP rear camera while the G4 Plus comes with 16MP sensor.
- Sirin Labs Solarin
Sirin Labs will be launching their first smartphone Solarin on May 17th in Europe. The device will come with military grade security and is expected to retail around $20,000 (approx Rs. 13.3 lakhs). At this price, the Solarin will be one of the costliest smartphones on earth. While the device is said to feature extreme security features, the Solarin misses the latest hardware and software that are available in the market. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop while many smartphones these are launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. It sports a 5.5-inch display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.
Under the hood, the Solarin is powered by Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor clocked at 1.9GHz along with Adreno 430 GPU. Instead of the failure chipset, Sirin Labs might have opted for Snapdragon 820 soC that offers high performance and lowers power consumption. The device includes 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It features a 23MP rear camera that can record videos at 4k resolution. On the front is an 8MP sensor for selfies and video calls. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, and GPS. While other details will be known only after the official launch of the smartphone.
After Ringing Bells, Docoss is the latest Indian brand to offers low-cost Android smartphones. The device is priced at just Rs. 888 and come with very basic specifications. Docoss is also offering one year warranty for the X1, but there are no details about the service centers. It runs on years old Android 4.4 Kitkat OS, and we don’t expect the device to receive any software updates. It sports a 4-inch IPS display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution. Under the hood is the unknown dual-core chipset clocked at 1.3GHz. The Docoss X1 includes 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.
The device is kept powered on by a 1,300mAh battery which might not last more than a day of mixed usage. In the camera department, it has a 2MP rear camera with LED flash and a 0.3MP front camera. It supports dual SIM and offers 3G connectivity on only one SIM. The company also mentioned to launch the 4G LTE supported device in the near future. The device bookings are closed on April 29th, and the delivery should start from today, i.e., May 2nd.
