Xiaomi Sells 100 Million Redmi Smartphones Worldwide
Xiaomi is one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in China and has been selling quite a few devices over the last couple of years. This year, they have already released a variety of different smartphones which includes the four mid-range devices in Redmi series like the Redmi 3, Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3 Pro and Redmi 3s. They have also introduced their flagship Mi 5 and the Mi Max phablet in China. The Mi Max is scheduled to launch in India on 30th of June.
The Redmi series is their most popular lineup of devices, at least in terms of sales. These are the company’s affordable smartphone offerings. The CEO of the company, Jun Lei has released a rather interesting data about the Redmi series devices. According to the CEO, the company has sold over 100 million units till now. The first Redmi smartphone was launched back in 2013. The company has achieved this in 3 years of time, which is impressive. In total, they have launched nine variants in the series excluding the “Pro” models.
This indicates that the company has sold over 12 million units of each model on an average. The devices are known for offering great value for money with impressive specs. The latest Redmi phone which is launched is the Redmi 3s. It comes with a comes with a 5-inch 720p display, 2GB / 3GB of RAM and 16GB / 32GB of native storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 430 64-bit Octa-core SoC and it comes with a 13-megapixel rear facing camera. Other highlights of the hardware are an impressive metal body with a 4000 mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner.
And all this just costs only $106 or $136 depending on the variant, which is affordable and value for money. With this impressive price range coupled with great hardware, Xiaomi is making some significant progress in terms of sales. It was listed in top 5 smartphone manufacturers for sales in the first quarter of 2016. It will be interesting to see what the numbers will look like for the manufacturer by the end of this year with respect to other manufacturers.
