Omate Yumi Home Robot announced – Runs on Android & Amazon Alexa Integration
If you think you are a fan of Google Assistant and if you think that having an assistant is fun, then you just have to wait until you get your hands on this little guy. Meet Yumi, the Android Robot which can double as a personal bot with some neat integration. Yes, this is a robot made by smart accessories brand Omate that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker and voice-activated unit. How may you ask? All thanks to its integration with Amazon Alexa.
Omate’s mission is to connect every family member through new type of Internet of Things experiences. Modules powered by Omate are used in wearable devices enhancing the lifestyle of many family members from kids to seniors, etc. And now with this, Omate is entering a new game-changing smart home IoT category i.e. Robotics. Laurent Le Pen, Founder & CEO at Omate stated that they had spent over a year from design to engineering in order to give birth to Yumi. It required deep Android software customization to combine high-end audio and state-of-the-art AI into its complex mechanical design.
He also stated that Yumi had been built on AI from the ground up, it is an incredibly smart and cute robot; a personal assistant, a music hub, and a smart-home control point all in one. Can it get better? Now let’s talk about the robot itself. It comes with a 5-inch 720p resolution display on the front which is used for commands and off course to give it a natural look to make it look like a friendly robot. It also comes with wheels so that it can move towards you while you are interacting with it.
And not just that, it comes with a 5MP front camera for video calls and home surveillance. One important feature which is missing here is that it cannot detect objects or obstacles on its way. And hence unless you want to end up with a broken toy, you might want to keep it in fixed place from where it can be operated easily. It also comes with the similar parts which are powering your smartphones. It comes with a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 chipset, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage. It also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, HDMI, and microUSB ports.
Since it is using Amazon Alexa, you need to have a solid internet connection at your place in order for it work flawlessly. Hence make sure it is being taken care of before investing in this little guy. And talking about the price here, the price of Yumi Limited Editions will start from $349 for the Omate Yumi Developer Edition on Indiegogo on November 15. (Estimated Delivery: March 2017). Yumi will be available in the retail in the course of Q3 2017 (official date TBC) and the price will increase to $599. Stay tuned for more info.
