Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge gets Firmware OTA update – Detailed Change Log

Samsung has sent out another update to its flagship handsets; S7 and S7 Edge. This year company has been quite active since they launched the handset at MWC. The update fixes some issues and offers improvements for better performance as well. The update puts firmware version to FXXU1APE9 for both the handsets. The update size is of 353.80MB for Galaxy S7 and 332MB for Galaxy S7 Edge.

According to the change-log, the fixes include an issue with power saving mode not working when Google Now is running, as well as some users reported that first few seconds was flickering while playing recorded videos. While talking about the performance improvements, the icon location cycle has been changed to improve screen clarity when Always On Display is enabled. The Korean giant recently updated this feature separately.

Note that if you haven’t received the pop up for this update, then we urge to manually check for the update. You can do that by heading to About device section in the Settings app. The first option you’ll see is the Download updates manually, tapping on that will open a new update, now you have to confirm further to check for updates. Once it’s shown, it will start downloading the file. All you have to do is make sure the battery life on your device is more than 50%, as well as its connected to a Wi-Fi network. Unless you don’t mind those data charges for the download.

The latest OTA (Over-the-Air) from the South Korean giant is being rolled out to S7 Edge users around the world, where the device is available for purchase. The update size varies, in India its 164.97MB. If you have a Galaxy S7 Edge, we recommend checking manually on your handset if it hasn’t popped up yet.

Even with such small size, the company has packed in a lot of improvement, the brand isn’t known for frequent updates, but with feedback from consumers, they had to roll out this update as quick as possible. The camera improvements that you’ll see includes fixes like correction of minor distortion in wide-angle characteristics, as well as fixing of oversaturation of yellow in low-light captures.

The edge panel features that are new; CNN News, which is for selected regions like US< Canada, Australia, Singapore, India, South Africa and the Philippines. The music player streaming was being interrupted via browsing through social media apps as been fixed too. The compass app was unusually using a lot of power while running in the background, it has been resolved now. Note that the battery percentage on your device should be more than 50% to go through this procedure of downloading and installation of the software update.
