Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 Announced to Charge 50% Phone Battery in 15 minutes
Today, Qualcomm has announced its latest fast charging technology Quick Charge 4 in New York. Currently, the flagship processors like Snapdragon 820 & it upgraded variant Snapdragon 821 are coming with Quick Charge 3 technology. The company also mentioned that this new technology will be first available with its upcoming Snapdragon 835 SoC. As the smartphones powered by the new Snapdragon 835 SoC will be launched in early 2017, we need to wait for few more months to know the real life improvements.
Commenting on the occasion, Alex Katouzian, Senior VP, Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, said,
“As mobile devices become more capable and feature rich, people tend to use them more. That’s why consumer demand and awareness for fast-charging solutions is now at an all-time high. Quick Charge 4 addresses that need by providing up to 50 percent battery charge in roughly 15 minutes or less, so you don’t have to spend all day chained to your charging cable.”
Since the new Snapdragon 835 SoC is developed by both Qualcomm and Samsung, the Galaxy S8 that will be launched at MWC 2017 might come equipped with the new SD835 SoC & Quick Charge 4. This new fast charging technology will give five or more hours of usage with just five minutes of charging. The Quick Charge 4 is designed to give faster charging time along with higher efficiency. Compared to the currently available Quick Charge 3.0, the dual charge technology which Qualcomm calls ‘parallel charging technology’ gives 20% faster charging time and 30% higher efficiency.
I guess this is similar to the Vivo’s fast charging technology that comes with dual charging chips with dual charging circuits. The Vivo X6 and X6 Plus that are launched in December 2015 are first smartphones to use this dual chip charging technology.
