Xiaomi Mi Mix Replacement Screen to Cost 1350 yuan / $195 When Repaired

Xiaomi has launched the Mi MIX smartphone with an edgeless display in China along with the Mi Note 2. Though it is a concept phone, the Mi MIX is available exclusively in China in very limited quantities. It is completely built with a ceramic body including the frame and physical buttons. Even though it comes with top notch specifications, its display is the most attractive feature. It sports a 6.4-inch edgeless display with very thin bezels on the top and side edges. Even the front camera and earpiece are removed from the top of the display as there is no place to fit them. Instead, the company has opted for the ultrasonic proximity sensor and piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology that transmits the sound through the device frame.

The 6.4-inch Full HD display comes with 2040 x 1080 pixels resolution and has an unusual aspect ratio of 17:9. Normally, the displays we see on the regular smartphone will be coming with 16:9 aspect ratio and it will be decreased to 15:9 when there are on-screen navigation buttons. Even though the Mi MIX comes with 6.4-inch display, it feels much smaller than the 6.44-inch Mi Max. Since the display a bit wider it is difficult to operate with a single hand. If you follow Phone Radar, you might know that our Mi MIX display is already got damaged. It was just fallen from less than one feet height, and there is a hairline crack on top of the display. This all happened during the video recording of the Mi MIX FAQ video, but there is no footage of the drop as it was paused at that time.

Since the device is not launched here in India, we won’t be able to get the new display. While we tried to import from Chinese resellers, one has yet listed any replacement parts for the Mi MIX. Though there is no official confirmation, the replacement display panel for Mi MIX is said to cost almost 1350 Yuan (approx $195 / Rs. 13,500). The Mi MIX users in China can opt for the accidental insurance which is priced at 249 Yuan (approx $36 / Rs. 2,500) per year. While the accidental insurance for the Mi Note 2 also costs the same 249 Yuan, the same insurance for the recently launched Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A is priced at 79 Yuan (approx $11 / Rs. 800) and 69 Yuan (approx $10 / Rs. 700) respectively. This insurance covers free replacement of the cracked display, liquid damage.

If the device is damaged willfully or the regular wear and tear of the device will not be covered under this warranty. We guess, most of the Mi MIX users might have opted for this accidental insurance since the Mi MIX display is more prone to damage. Unlike the regular smartphone, there is no much protection for the display on the top and side edges. The company also offered similar insurance in India called as Mi Protect at the time of Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 launch period. Talking about our Mi MIX, we are still finding the replacement display panel, and once we find one, you might see the video of replacing the cracked/shattered display of Mi MIX.

Recently there are rumors that Xiaomi will be launching the 5.5-inch Mi MIX Nano as the liter variant to the bigger Mi MIX. It is said to come with the similar edgeless display with the same Full HD resolution. Though it will be powered by the Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.35GHz along with Adreno 530 GPU, the Mi MIX Nano will be available only with 4GB RAM. The original Mi MIX came with 6GB RAM and 128GB and 256GB storage options. The 256GB RAM variant came with 18K gold rings around the fingerprint sensor and rear camera module. If the Mi MIX Nano comes out of rumors, then it can be used as the regular driver since the smaller 5.5-inch display can be easy to handle with a single hand.Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more updates about the upcoming smartphones!
