MIUI 8 China Developer ROM for Most Xiaomi Smartphones available – How To Upgrade

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi had introduced its MIUI 8 ROM back in May. The company promised that the first developer ROM will be available to download starting June 17th. As promised, they released the first MIUI 8 China Developer ROM 6.6.16 along with its changelogs.

The company says that the users on the MIUI 8 Developer ROM will get the OTA update notifications on their phones. The company also provides a detailed guide for flashing the update manually for others. The best part is, the changelogs contains over thousands of optimizations. These are excluding the new features in the MIUI 8.

Talking about what’s new with MIUI 8, Xiaomi said that the new ROM has been inspired by a kaleidoscope in terms of design and will have lots of other new changes. The new UI includes various different changes including brand new design, second space, support for cloning most apps, long screenshots, new calculator app, new scanner, shortcut menu, Mi Lanting font, support for speech-to-text out in recorder, redesigned gallery app, smart menu, new battery saver, wallpaper carousel and lots more.

The MIUI 8 China Developer ROM version 6.6.16 is said to be more stable than the Alpha and Beta ROMs. This release is dedicated to the Chinese market, and the list of supported devices include Xiaomi Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4c, Mi 4S, Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi Note, Mi Note Pro. The list of supported Redmi devices includes Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2A, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 2, and Redmi Note 3 (Mediatek and Qualcomm variants).

The MIUI 8 with new design and features was first introduced to Alpha testers in May, followed by a Beta testing from June 1st. At the launch of MIUI 8 ROM in May, Xiaomi had claimed that there were 200 million MIUI users worldwide. It is expected that all the new upcoming devices will be running the new MIUI 8 out of the box. The company is also expected to launch the new Mi Note 2 and a pro version of the same in July.
