Reliance Jio users use 18 GB Data per month compared to 150 MB National Average
Reliance Jio, a part of the Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has been in the media attention since when they first announced their plans to launch nationwide 4G coverage. But the telecom company has failed to do so as it is being delayed for some obvious reasons. It has been reported couple weeks back that the services in some states to be commercially started from April end. But with the month on the verge of the end, there is no information that when the company will roll out their service.
Last year, RIL hosted a grand event for its employees and family members, where Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan were present for the announcement of Reliance Jio to be the extended for the family and friends of their employees. It will help the company to test out the services and optimize it further before its commercial launch. Now it has been in that stage for quite a while. And the brand has released some data to media, which can be seen posted on Economic Times.
Reliance Jio LYF 4G Water 1, Water 2, Water 3 & Earth 1 Smartphones Launched
Currently, there are more than 5 lakh consumers of the Reliance Jio services on either LYF smartphones; a Reliance Retail branded handsets, which have already gone on sale in some parts of the states. As well as being used with other brands handsets. Reporting about the consumers data package usage behavior, Anshuman Thakur, Strategy, and Planning Head of Reliance Jio stated that against the national average of 150MB data per user/month, Jio customers are consuming 18GB data per user/month. It is a huge number even if we consider the number of users, i.e. 0.5 Million users using the Reliance Jio network connections.
Note that currently the Jio customers are getting free internet connection under the introductory scheme. Once the brand launches this service the pricing will play a vital role as current service providers like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea charges a lot for their 4G services in the respective states they are made available.
Though, if we talk about the nationwide usage of data on the network, it is this low because smartphones users don’t see network operators as a reliable resource for browsing web. The first reason is that prices are quite high, and even after paying that consumers are not getting good signal strength. That’s the reason they would much rather browse on their devices using broadband Wi-Fi connections at home and offices.
Reliance’s LYF announces Flame 2, Wind 4 & Water 7 4G LTE Smartphones, Price Starts from Rs. 4,999
We expect that to change soon as Jio network will threaten the user base of those providers. Thus, in the end, other telecom giants in the country would have to rethink their pricing model and improve the service if they want to stay alive in the competition.
